They're out in Poland - some ebay traders have them but their BIN prices are a straight 'change Euro of Pound sign' before postage so they can stick it. I'll wait till Telford. Note to self: remember wheelbarrow.

I've been doing some dry fitting with one of the Mk IXs in the joy pack. Nice fit, but the wing has some... uncomfortable similarities, shall we say... to the wings from a Japanese manufacturer's Griffon Spitfires. Which means that the dihedral may be out. Having spotted that, my suspicions were raised and I've compared the fuselage to fuselages of other available mk IXs (Airfix, Hasegawa and Sword being to hand).

The AZ fuselage is about 4mm shorter than the Airfix one, although that's allegedly too long. It's 2mm shorter than the Sword one (although it's a low back the length doesn't change) but from rudder post to cowling tip, it matches the Hasegawa fuselage. The latter is regarded by many as being too short. Thus, the AZ one is also wrong. Gentlemen, we've been sold a pup. Nicely and delicately moulded and the dry fit is quite nice, but it's a pup nonetheless.

In addition, certain other kit parts bear similarities to bits from other kits.

Although as a plus point, the spare Sword 16 fuselage I have fits the AZ wing nicely.

Ive just completed the Legato boxed Hurricane IIc, i guess this is really the place to mention it... It had a very high level of detail but christ was it a mission to bang it into shape !

I really CANT recommend it, i was lucky i didnt pay for it but at the price you'd be far better off buying the airfix or Hasegawa "IIc" and spending the extra on detail bits... Your heart and hair will thank you for it !

That's another "bitsa" and it's an interesting game working out where each bit's been "borrowed" from. I did't pay full price for the one I had and sold it on for same a few weeks back. A mate fought one and *really* disliked it.

Personally, I'll stick to the old Heller/Smer kit if I want a hurricane, although the promise of the new Airfix one is quite alluring.

I liked the result once i was finally finished but looking back it really wasnt worth the fight... If i was doing another i'd definately buy a different kit..

Couple of Luft 46 Gotha's from AZ. I've got a Planet one in the stash and as I don't do much Luft 46 now (struggle with mottle) I'll pass. I'll get one of the new tool P-26's though

That looks interesting. But, this is the Admiral moulding of the Pirate and that means it's rather... lacking... for a modern kit. The wheel wells are detail devoid, among other things. I have the old Meikraft kitting of the bird and found its level of detailing to be as good as the current Admiral release - and that was a big disappointment.

Hyperscale did a good review of the Admiral kitting of the Pirate when it first hit the shelves last March.

I'm glad to see some deliberate Whiffing going on here. I just wish it was with a better base kit.

With some whiffing this kit could become a precursor to the A 10. Think of a jet doing ground attack among the Skyraiders during Korea and or Vietnam.

I wish it was based on a more interesting aircraft in the first place! The Pirate's hardly the best looking early jet on the planet, although I applaud the wide variety of schemes available for the model, I mean a 'Raspberry Ripple' Pirate for goodness sake!

That's interesting. Actually, I have a Pirate (Admiral boxing) in my stack and wondered what to make of it - certainly not a boring, all-blue USN aircraft... Considered a later USN livery in Grey/White with colorful markings, and now AZ is quicker than reality... nice versions. The RAF version looks pretty, and I like the Salvadorean livery much, too. Too bad I already have a corresponding F4U on display...
