That's interesting. Actually, I have a Pirate (Admiral boxing) in my stack and wondered what to make of it - certainly not a boring, all-blue USN aircraft... Considered a later USN livery in Grey/White with colorful markings, and now AZ is quicker than reality... nice versions. The RAF version looks pretty, and I like the Salvadorean livery much, too. Too bad I already have a corresponding F4U on display...

Argentine Navy in place of their Corsairs perhaps ?, but central and south america might be suitable users to explore for first generation used US jets

That looks interesting.  But, this is the Admiral moulding of the Pirate and that means it's rather... lacking... for a modern kit.  The wheel wells are detail devoid, among other things.  I have the old Meikraft kitting of the bird and found its level of detailing to be as good as the current Admiral release - and that was a big disappointment.

Hyperscale did a good review of the Admiral kitting of the Pirate when it first hit the shelves last March.

I'm glad to see some deliberate Whiffing going on here.  I just wish it was with a better base kit.

I really don't think it's fair to call this a bad kit. OK, it might be missing some minor details, but who cares? Go and build an Airfix or Frog kit from the early 60s - that'll be "lacking". Or some malformed Unicraft blob. This is not a bad kit at all.

Bravo to AZ for doing this kind of thing - it's interesting, and upsets the purists, which can only be good! How about a Korean War bomb-truck, or a French ground-attack machine in Indo-China? Or even a dayglo target drone in the 60s?

If I had the cash,I'd  have one of these.  Anyone who takes our inverted-sideways view of  modelling seriously deserves encouragement!

Second that. IMHO, the Admiral kit is not bad. Got it rel. cheap on a model fair - I would not buy it for "official" prices, and I hope the AZ model will have a more reasonable price tag. From what I see, moulding looks rel. clean and crisp. It's simple, yes, but that is not a bad thing per se. Just look at the old Matchbox kits - except for some truly gruesome kits (Alpha Jet, Buccaneer), these are simple but sound things, great for whiffing or adding some details. And the parts fit! The Admiral kit looks decent, and AZ already did such whiffy things, e. g. the Spiteful and Seafang OOB whifs, or the Kikka whifs. Nice to see more "creative" stuff, and I can already see foaming mouths of many 'serious' modelers... what I like, BTW.

Argentine Navy is a very good option/idea. Hobby Boss has a Panther with that decal option - I might get it (interested in a Panther, anyway) and use that option. A Grey/White Pirate should look pretty, and with the light blue trim and anchor markings...? Sounds like a plan.

Philippine Air Force could be an alternative, too - also Grey/White basis. Later replaced by F-8's...

Just playing the messenger here lads, they are dedicated Whif boxings aimed at our interest group, so thought the members would like a heads up.

No blame on you lad!  Nothing of the kind at all!  I was just noting the fact that here it is in 2013 and a modern model making house like AZ Model / Admiral is putting out plastic bits which even Airfix bested back in the 70s.  Yeah, there is joy in simplicity and a stock basic kit is the perfect thing for a Whiff - I used a PM Model Sea Fury for my Blue Angels Sea Fury rendering for just that very reason.

But, at the price the Admiral Pirate was listed at, the lack of detailing wasn't up to par.  My bet is that they've taken stock of this by virtue of how many Admiral Pirate kits they have still gathering dust on their warehouse shelves.  So, what to do with an unmoving kit?  Well, how about some "What If?" livery schemes!  Brilliant!  Hopefully they'll price these to sell.

Second that, exactly. The kit is not bad, but way overpriced. Half price would do, and even that is steep. And noone is desperate for a Pirate kit - a whif option won't change that, since IMHO a whiffer will hardly build such a thing OOB, rather "do his/her own thing".

This is what mine could actually evolve into. Got the kit, even markings, and the Pirate would perfectly fit into the gap between the F4U and the Panthers. Good idea, and the story is perfect

Today at Modellbrno contest (here,in Czech republic) I bought AZ´s Pirate....and just now I work on Argentinian Navyś Pirate....
It will be camouflaged in simillar manner like mine argentinian Helldiver...I hope that very soon I give this draw to my theme in "Profiles and CGI"...

Interesting...!  I also pulled my Admiral kit out of the stash, and this will become an Argentinian Navy aircraft, too, even though in classic Grey/White livery. Currently working on "something else", but that could be the next thing to enter the hardware stage, as a warm-up for my F3D-3 conversion/project, somewhere beyond the horizon...
