Did we already have this whiffy thing?

Cor, does it have an engine on top and below as well? Looks pretty mean.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yep: the idea is that the top engine keeps the plane going when the bottom engine eats dirt, rocks, tools, ground equipment, FOD, ground crew etc.. while the bottom engine keeps the plane going after the back-seater's tried to bail out and come to a sticky end in the top engine.....

Dizzyfugu,

I bought one of the C1 "Night fighter" Luftwaffe versions of that and it's a rather nice kit, actually.  Typical of AZ Models current tech.  It seems that someone at AZ Models "gets it" when it comes to Whiffing what, with their US NACA, Japanese and Soviet liveries.  Good on them!

Probably more to do with the reliability of those German Jet Engines, when one breaks up it doesn't take out the other engine or the crew  ;)

That plus the usual considerations of thrust vs. weight.  Those early jets weren't all that great on thrust.  So, the Gotha engineers figured the best solution was two of the same engine rather than going for just one much larger unit with a greater thrust.  That is, if there was even one single unit of that capability available.  And then you'd also deal with the reliability issues of just the single jet engine.  And as the Germans were fortunately lacking in high temp alloys at that time, their jet engine reliability was awfully damn poor.  So, better then to use a two unti layout from that perspective as well.  And since the things were easily podded, slapping them on to various locations on the airframe was a thing of simplicity.  Hard to do that with a recip and its associated prop.

Yes, but having a low-mounted engine's intake directly behind the nosewheel is just asking for FOD trouble and unlike a lot of intake design issues, that's one that you absolutely CAN see even when you've only got mid WWII level jet knowledge.

Oh, no question.  And that's one of the reasons this was but a paper project that only got as far as it did and no further.

Very much so. When we went to Prague the AZ family couldn't keep up with demand and I have a wonderfull memory of a glum looking "dad" at last years Telford sitting at a virtually empty stand on the Sunday with "son" mouthing something at him - probably Czech for "I told you we should have charged more"  ;D

This is interesting; AZ are doing a Hueycobra "joy pack" which means three sets of sprues in one box but with no decals for £16.00:

Wonder what's behind that decision? Good for Whiffers, mind you...

Perhaps they've had a spat with their decal producers?  ;D
