With four top quality metal barrels

That's awfully tempting: I bet you can adapt that nose to all sorts of other aircraft too..... :wub:

Jeepers, that's a BIG aeroplane!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Thank you Tophe  :thumbsup: Something smilar was proposed for the Blackhawk nightfighter

And the F-89 Scorpion.  There was quite a fad at the time for such turrets.  Made the ammunition feeds quite complex.

You know the first thing that went through my mind when I saw that big greenhouse canopy was "Lancaster": wonder if you could pass it off as an intermediate step between the Lincoln and the Vulcan....... :wacko:

at this time germans had no means to make large curvy canopies or clear parts;
despite its construction the canopy is very streamlined;
Below is IAE38 one;

I've been trying to work out the ammunition feed system myself

I don't think the feed is any different to other feeds for the .5".  Considering the 'whole' nose rotates, the ammo cans would too as IIRC they're set in between the two slots.

As Kitnut points out, the ammunition magazines are in between the guns but because of the large angle of movement, they had to be placed behind the actual guns and were connected by flexible feed chutes.  I've got a F-89 book around the place with some extensive pictures of that turret.  The nose is occupied by a radar which controls the guns.  I'd assume the same with this turret.   I can't see a fighter pilot being able to fly and aim the guns over such a broad range very easily.

Cheers gents. There just didn't seem much room for ammo to me.

Madoc

Renaud & all,

Egads!  Will you look at the fire control gear for that thing?

http://www.sharkit.com/sharkit/emerson/X17A%20Installation.jpg

That thing looks about the size of not one - but TWO refrigerators stacked next to each other!  All this crammed into a single seat fighter?  Yikes!  Nowadays all that computing mechanism would fit into your shirt pocket.  Not sure about the servos but I find it hard to believe they'd be so bulky as this thing.

It's wonderful!

That is, so long as I wasn't the poor SOB charged with pulling maintenance on it!

Wherever you go, there you are!

Madoc

Renaud,

What are the differences with this Fernbomber versus the previous issuings of the kit you've done?
