freightdog/Maintrack P1154RN hybrid

Hi fellas, just finished this today , it's a marriage of the first run Freightdog P1154 and Maintracks old twin seat RN from way back.After a fair bit of head scratching and a lot of conversing with thorvic about weapons, squadron markings, etc I decided on an 892 sqdn aircraft , based on a refitted Hermes dated around 1967/8.The weapons are 2x Red tops and 2x Blue Dolphins (developed Red Tops) as well as 2 x 250 gal tanks and a single centre line 150 gal tank. I am assuming a developed BS 100 engine as the original may have had a job lifting this lot on a hot day !!

Thanks Lenny, it's a very easy build , looking forward to seeing the final model , going to have to get the RAF version should be a lot easier to build ...

Wow, that's a beautiful bird. The Blue Dolphins are a nice touch.

How did you paint the engine nozzles? That color is quite unusual.

Hi Hobbes ,thanks it's a mix of Humbrol enamel bronze, silver and extra dark sea grey, run over with a light mist of light grey and finished with Pro modellers dark dirt wash...

Is there any other info on the Blue Dolphin ? It's the first time I've heard of them.

Blue Dolphin is actually a radar homing missile using the Red Top body and warhead. The Red Top required initial radar guidance from the mother aircraft and then the ID seeker would guide the missile to the target, where as Blue Dolphin or SAHR Red Top would use a radar seeker head. The family would thus be something similar to the Soviet AA-7 Apex family.

Thanks Geoff & Hobbes, I don't remember reading about it in my copy of that BSP, I'll have to have a re-read

Very nice! The pilot would need to be careful not to damage those Blue Dolphins on entering/exiting though.
