Or go the Dornier Do-24 route. A turboprop Catalina/Canso with four PT6s?

A Turbo-prop Canso water-bomber was considered by Avalon Aviation in Canada, Darts were the proposed engines.

I'm another who built this one as a kid, fond memories, had to have a kit after seeing it at an airshow.  Looking forward to see what you do with it Greg!

My build is on top of a bookshelf at my folks place and is probably my oldest surviving built model.

But please do PT-6s instead of Darts, or perhaps even a pair of Allison T-56s from a C-130. And Greenlandish, Swedish or Danish markings

You could even go the full way and fit 6 bladed props and RR AE2100s from a C-130J...

This would be a nice paint scheme:

PT6's would be a little light on power compared to the Dart & the T56 is probably a bit too grunty.  Darts would give you a power advantage over the piston version & probably still be more economical while not putting too much strain on the fuselage.  A bit more grunt would be useful in a water bomber too.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

3 PT-6s would be cool, 2 T-56s could be downrated. Darts look a bit... ugly... at least for a Catalina (well thats my opinion)

No, that's just the nature of the Dart :p
It's a crappy self-made pic of a Lockheed Unmanned Combat Armed Rotorcraft (UCAR), BTW

I don't see anything in the photo that makes the Dart any uglier than any other engine:

The T56 could be considered a bit odd looking:

The PT6A is kinda bland looking:

Well the Dakota Dart conversion I have looks quite nice, and I think would work very nicely on the Cat'

Can a Dart be fitted inside a T-56 or PT-6 cowling?

If anybody has a bunch of PT-6s or T-56s or AE2100s lying around, i will gladly take them, to use on an Academy Catalina

The Dart' intake is around the spinner Thomas, which leads straight to the compressor which would make it a bit difficult considering how the other two engines suck in their air.  And it depends on which Dart version you go with too, the original Dart fitted to a Viscount was quite a bit different in size and power to later ones.  The PT-6 is a reverse flow engine with it's intake at the back ( IIRC)

Thats what makes the PT-6 so much more nice to look at

So is this going to come off looking like the love child of a Cat and an Antonov An-72?

Yeah. I kind of felt I had to when I saw that the crew figures had helmets, pressurized suits, and airhoses (in a catalina????).
