Doctor Who's space age spitfires, attack the dalek mothership  :dalek:
the spitfire lives on, even in the far future

now THAT is a never retired spitfire  :dalek:
now what do we call it, a Supermarine Spacefire or Sci-Fire  ;D

I like the way those 'Spacefires' have the high altitude pointed wingtips, like the Mk VI and VII!  -_-

At least SOMEONE in the Beeb does their research properly.........
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Thread revival!!!!

How about upgrading the SeaCat launchers by replacing the SeaCat missiles with 2 RAM missile containers?

Also adding a lot of stuff onto a Type 42 in case of failure of it's replacement?

There were plans to upgrade Seacat launchers with Seawolf missiles - one for one.

rallymodeller: Awesome stuff.  Do you happen have a CF-101B or F in a lowviz profile? Tail numbers 101010 or 101059? I worked on these A/C.

I mentioned some time back in another thread about modern roles for battleships & cruisers, instead of retiring them, turning them into guided missile ships.  Basicaly use the same hull & completely resdesign the weaponary & much of the superstructure.  More or less earlier versions of the Kirov Class.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

the "USS New Jersey" is a perfect exsample of never retired, she served from World war 2 right up to Operation: Desert Storm  ;D

The Iowa Class fit right in with what I had in mind.  Although the story of the recommisioned Iowa ships is right out of one our alternative threads, what if they'd gone further & replace the turrets with cruise missle batteries as their primary aramament?

If the Buccaneers were never retired then they would be able to carry 4 x harpoon anti-ship missilels, the Jaguars could be navalised for the Fleet Air Arm. Small enough for landing on the Ark Royal.
The Vulcans and Victors would have new engines and resparred wings. Cockpit and even fly-by-wire controls.
The Canberras would have in-flight refueling probes added.
The Nimrods, carbon materials, digital cockpit and a four foot plug down the middle to make them wider. Could have used the Comet MK5s if they had been built.!!
Some how the Shackletons would be restricted to flying displays.
The VC-10 did experiment with a different engine but, the negatives won.

Buccs could, and did carry four anti-ship missiles anyway, the Sea Eagle.

Never saw them with more than two, whilst I was serving in Gibraltar. Crews complained about the drag created by the Sea Eagle missiles.
