How many of......?

I've got quite a few doubles in the stash but there's one aircraft I have in quantity...

Eurofighter Typhoon! Must be at least 10 different boxings in 1/72 and a couple in 1/144. Also got a trio of EAPs too.

A-4 Skyhawks I have about 5 of and there might be 4 F-16s.....

Maybe it's time for a recount and a spreadsheet, or does madness lie that way?

I'm astonished at the number of us who know exactly how many of each they have, you must all run a database or similar. Years ago I thought of doing that, but the sheer enormity of gathering the data in The Loft defeated me. Maybe now I'm retired I can dedicate a week or two and get down to it.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Up to about three years ago I had no idea how many kits I had in the stash, had a good idea on the built ones because they were all hanging from the ceiling (250+) so just before we moved house and while I was packing everything away for the move, I listed everything and then made a spread sheet in Excel.  It's real handy because I can change the list arrangement by Aircraft Manufacturer, Kit Manufacturer, type of kit, kit to be converted or has been converted, scale, built or unbuilt, accessories added or got for a particular kit or anything else you can think of as a parameter.  You can even link an entry to photos (if I knew how to do it )
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

The list below is a small portion of what I USED to have. I have sold off almost all of them, retaining either 1, 2, or none of them. That was just last June. The numbers include variants of the aircraft, and multiple manufacturers and all in 1/72. The list doesn't include the ones I have built, just in the box.

29  Me-109's
29 Spitfires
21 Zeroes (incl. "Rufes")
22 Fw-190's
20 Me-262's
15 P-40's
15 P-51's
13 He-100's
12 "Judy"s
12 P-47's
10 "Tony's
8 Mossies
8 A-20's
8 Wildcats
8 Ki-100's
7 B-17's

Disgusting, isn't it?

Most subjects in my collection (some 2500) had 2 or 3 copies. Rare for me to have only one of something, in case I f***ed one up.

My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

It's worth it Kit. My database is rather as suggested by Kitbasher and from that I keep a couple of reference lists by manufacturer and by aircraft name so that I have a quick reference if tempted by something I see on-line (doesn't stop inadvertent purchases though  :banghead:). I also list conversion parts, transfers (still working on the detail of this database) and paints which are referenced to the IPMS Stockholm charts (or are getting there).  Initially a lot of work but once done quite easy to update.

I do have to confess however that my job before retirement was in this type of field - not computers (I'm useless at the tech ) but handling and dealing with data and information. Oh and it's all in Lotus 123 none of this new fangled MS for me  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

5 X Ta 152

3 X Ta 154

5 X Ju 88

6 X He 162

10 X Bf 109

3 X Opel Blitz trucks

4 X Me 163

6 X Me 262

2 X BV 155

3 X Me P 1101

4 X Ar 234

I will not be adding any new kits to my stash except for the new tool Dragon 1/48 scale Ta 152 C and Eduard Fw 190 D-9, D-11, and D-13 kits.

Later this year when the second volume of Jerry Crandall's Dora book and the new Ta 152 book are published my surplus of Fw 190 kits will go down as I switch over to building nothing but Focke-Wulf prop fighters for a while.

Yup. I use a table done up in M$ Word. Contains exact kit name, manufacturer (name of releasing company and, if applicable, where the moulds originated from), current condition and price. All subdivided by scale and genre (post-WWII in 1/72, for instance). Maybe I should have a new column for kit number. Might be interesting with all the Hasegawa re-releases.

Very handy for keeping track of the stash (currently at 652 kits). Although it did happen once that I came home with my first, newly-acquired Revell 1/72 Hunter, and upon opening the list I saw I already had one!  :o I guess it will happen again some day. It happens routinely that I browse through the list, come to kit and am astonished that I have that particular kit.
Cheers,
Moritz

Madoc

Folks,

I use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of my stash.  I started this when, after gleefully unwrapping my latest eBay purchase, I suddenly realized that the plastic bits I was then fondling seemed all to familiar.  Whereupon I'd dig through the pile and realize that I had indeed just unwittingly purchased a duplicate of some kit that I really only wanted one of.  Oops.

I've got my spreadsheet set up to record the scale, manufacturer, aircraft name - numeric designation first, followed by officially given aircraft name, followed by manufacturer, type (A for aircraft, S for ship, Sp for spacecraft, etc.,), Material (resin, vac, etc.,), extras (vac canopies, photo-etch, etc.,) whether the box is open, open with sealed parts, or still in shrink, the purchase date, the received date, the started date, the kit's source (eBay, online, etc.,) the seller, the item #, its all up price, its starting price, its closing price, single or lot purchase, kit quality, and notes on the particular kit.

I've one sheet devoted to just the kits and another devoted to parts, books and tools.

Generally speaking, I try to limit my collecting to no more than two of any particular aircraft type.  More, perhaps, if the version differences are so great and if the price of the additional kit is low enough.  That's how I wound up with five He-111's.  There's an "A" version, an "H," an H-6, one that's a V-1 carrier, and the Zwilling version.

Other than that, there's planes that I'm simply fond of.  The Grumman "Skyrocket" comes to mind here.  That and both the Bearcat and Tigercat as well.

Looking over my collection I have:
