No, neither the Vulcan nor the FD2 had dihedral and it's easier to line up the wings at 90 deg rather than match a small angle on both sides without any jigs.

I've been trying to fit the centre wing section from the JP5 this afternoon, there's STILL a huge gap to fill in......

I wasn't sure about this one looking at the profile but having seen it in 3D, I'm liking it.

For what its worth, my vote goes to a white/red scheme.

You should have seen it with the standard JP5 fin! YEEEEeeeeuk! 

As apophenia noted, getting the wing incidence was tricky too. The RW FD2 stood waaaaay nose high and its wing was aligned with the fuselage centre line. The Vulcan itself sits nose up, but not so much, but it's so high off the ground it can rotate a huge amount, thus increasing wing incidence for take-off. I played around with the wing of the JP6 and some tape and decided that just over half way up the intakes was about right. I'll use the FD2 landing gear, sawn down a tad, and make it sit nose high on the ground too.

They'll need to the get the old JP1 boarding ladders out of stores to climb on board though, standard ones just won't hack it!

I presume the high angle of incidence on the FD.2 was to compensate for a lack of dedicated flaps? Drooped ailerons only take you so far.

I suppose the body language of the FD.2 is what made it such a great testbed for Concorde's ogee wing. Does anyone make a BAC.221 conversion?

The JP.6 is actually going to have more than a passing resemblence to the HP.115 so I would say you are definately on track to produce a 'baby Vulcan'.

I think so. Very few, if any, deltas have dedicated flaps AFAIK, but they have oodles of lift as soon as they have some incidence to play with. I don't think a Vulcan has drooped ailerons either, anybody else know for sure?

I think the FD2 was just around at the time they needed to know about ogive wings, its main purpose had already been acheived, plus of course they still had a 'spare', as WG777 was left in the old configuration, and still is. It was right opposite us at Cosford the other weekend.

Maintrack did a complete BAC221 vacform in their X-Planes series, and very good it is too. I have one in my Loft and one day I'll build it.  The real one still exists too, that's WG774, the Air Speed Record breaker, and it's at the FAA Museum at Yeovilton, by co-incidence I'll probably be there to see it on Wednesday.

I wanted a side by side config. though, to go with the Vulcan setup, and I've already started cutting plastic, pics tomorrow with luck. Darned if I know what to do about the landing gear, the JP5 wheels are wider than the FD2 wings at that fore and aft position. I may have to go with shortened FD2 lever action legs.

And quite what I'll do with all the bits left over I have no idea!

Sorry Kit - didn't make myself clear: what I meant was: use the Gnat tail on your JP.

WG777 is 'spare' you say? Oh for a bigger garage 

Back on topic, is the JP.6 going to be AAR capable & have any stores such as practice bombs, so as to save flight hours on the Vulcan airframes or is it just a basic (delta) trainer?

Hm, yes, a nose probe may go well, I'll have to think about that.

I think the JP6 will be 'weapons free' as it's the bomb aimers that will need that sort of training, and they'll get that in their Dominie T2s.............

Thanks, I may take you up on that. Just now I've been home about 2 hrs after being away for week, and I badly need to get the T6 going again.

I'll form my thoughts on the Dominie T2 in the next few days. Currently I'm thinking about an under fuse bomb pannier, a bit like a jet Varsity, and painted in a Vulcan camo scheme
