After more than a few years the COVID-19 crisis has brought this shelf queen back to life!

While digging around in my model room looking for kits to take back to Northants with me this morning I found this long lost project lurking in its box, so packed it up and brought it with me.

I started this in 2009, for crying out loud!  :o

I still have a part built project that I started in the 80's, it's my first whiff too!

My longest build was an RW CF-104 Starfighter painted as the very first 'Tiger Scheme' aircraft that flew into the Woodbridge Tiger Meet in 1969.

It took me 26 YEARS to finish it, through three jobs, five houses, two wives and about 23 cars!  :o

I've had an old school Airfix JP made up as a T4 on the go for possibly longer, waiting for a vacform canopy.  And a Fujimi Phantom for about 20 years, just needs painting!

Some serious progress on the JP6, after something like 8 years!  :o

The gaping hole in the belly is no more, filled in with a gash piece of a kit that was just the right length and curvature, but needed some filing on its edges. Then the sides were filled in with styrene strips shaped to suit, and then the inevitable PSR session.

I've also added most of the Obscureco cockpit interior apart from the seats which are being painted. It's a very nice add-on to the standard JP5 kit, just a pity that it doesn't fit all that well. With the rear detail decking added the canopy is perched about a scale 6" too high, and if the seats are mounted on the floor the crew would need periscopes to see where they are flying!

OK, I know the crew of a JP5 sit stupidly low in the cockpit, but not THAT low. Quite why they made the canopy so tall I'm not sure, but it can only have been an aerodynamic reason. Unless the RAF were planning on hiring 7ft tall pilots!

See what I mean about the crew sitting so low?

Glad you resurrected this one Kit
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I am liking the look of this Kit, I shall be watching this one

I'm still in two minds as to the colour scheme for the JP6. In the RW OCU aircraft were painted in their parent unit's standard colour scheme, and the JP6 would have flown with the Vulcan 230 OCU, and would have been painted like this

But I suppose I'm so used to JPs being painted as trainers like this.

Camouflage  for me, as it could have  some  ordnance hanging off it too  if it decided to  have a career change

Camouflage for me too, just because it's different

(shame it's the wrong time period for yellow trainer bands as well!  ;D )
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

Many years ago when I was at an ATC (Air Cadet) summer camp at RAF Finningley, 230 OCU was the parent unit and they had both Camo and white Vulcans. So that opens up the possibility of overall white.

The Wooksta!

Camo over white.  Best of both worlds and leave the red scheme for proper trainer units.

Bonus points for a CND zap as black humour.

Camo plus white undersides.

Imagine the profiles as simple black shapes. Is it me or does anyone else see a 'Jet Basset'?
