Oh boy, Power Gun armed Tank Destroyer on a hover platform.  Hey, didn't they have something like this in the Hammer's Slammers universe?  Pretty sure some of the other Mercenary units had this to try and counter Hammer's panzers.

LOL - if you want to fire a big gun from a hovercraft, you'd better:

a) Have an auto-throttle that puts the engines into full forward thrust to counter the recoil when you fire,

or

b) Only fire with the vehicle on the ground with the skirt deflated.

;D

Hovercraft are poor gun platforms but natural missile platforms for much the same reasons as helicopters are.

IIRC the Powergun had no recoil, just released the cyan or something.  Was explained well in the first book.

Ah - I've never read the books, but I've just looked it up: a plasma gun, basically.

Have you seen these?

Yep, thought about the 25mm versions but still not sure they meet my vision from the books.  The one thing I don't like about the Slammers is that the tanks are described as "dinochrome" which to me means a shiny, chrome like finish.  I prefer my panzers camoflaged (even the sci-fi ones).

Here are a couple more links.  Go out and read the books (at least the first one).  I really like this series and the Bolos.

Isn't the term dinochrome from Laumer's Bolo stories rather than Hammer's Slammers?
Also I think in that context chrome may be a reference to colour as in chroma, chromatic etc, rather than a shiny metal plating.

Yeah, the Bolos were referred to as the "Dinochrome Brigade".  The Slammers' tanks, on the other hand, had iridium hulls.

Guess I better reread the books  :banghead:

I really like the S-tank. I have thought about "backdating" one with HVSS Sherman suspension and a 20-pounder...

NICE S-tanks - I'm a fan too.

I've just got a Trumpy 1/72nd one and the tentative plan is to give it a Sheridan's 152mm and M113 ACAV trimmings to make it a USMC assault gun modified for street-fighting in Iraq.

I know someone who has an original Aurora S-tank prototype kit in their stash, but they can't be persuded to part with it, I'm afraid.

OK I just found a copy of "Jane's Military Review" for 1986 and there's a photo of a Canadian development of the Sherman (possibly a RAM) hull with a 3.7" AA gun mounted behind a shield as a duel AA/AT SP gun. Always thought the 3.7" would make a good AT gun. They were used in the indirect fire role in Italy and NW Europe, bunker busters in SE Asia and there was an AT platform designed and possibly issue in N Africa.

In same book there's a photo of the Canadian designed 25pdr MARC ( Maobile Armoured Redoubt Canadian) a towed 25pdr mounted in a 4 wheeled turret. Aparently everyone agreed it was a good idea, but nobody agreed on how it should be used, so it didn't get used at all

Both would make nice builds.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

And I've got an 1/76 Millicast A39 Tortoise - will be a very easy build, so I've got a wee diorama in mind for it whenever I get round to building it.

Might be an excuse to stump up the cash for this one!

Being an armour head.. I like what you are all showing here.

This is a repeat from the Panzer IV thread in vehicles but fits perfectly here as well

I have done a (in my opinion) very plausible What if using the WWII Germans research into Anti Tank Guided Missiles and an old Panzer IV chassis

The Germans developed the Rotkappchen (Red Riding Hood) missile and had quite a number of test firings.. so the stretch to put it on a SP platform is not that much

Loved it there and still loving it here!
