Because the landing gear (see above) looked like they wouldn't be able to support the model for long without buckling under its weight, I wanted to build a base that would display the model in flight, just a few feet off of a speed-blurred runway base.

So, I painted this up.  The various shades of Polly Scale's "aged concrete" ended up looking a bit green and these shots, taken under fluorescent light, make the runway look horribly green.  But, all in all, I'm 75% satisfied with the resulting base.  I'll take some later shots in natural light to see if that improves things.  I was going to mask and airbrush in a blurred, dashed yellow runway centerline but then figured THWI.

Kill two birds with one stone by saying that this toughie uses gravel strips. That's what it looked like to me at first glance.

Superb display.  The ONLY thing that could improve it would be modifying the gear to be in mid-retraction.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Outer pylons empty, port wing low, nose up, let's say he's flaring for a crosswind landing.  ;D

I respectfully disagree with the Honourable Member from Canada...this is NOT a display of an aircraft that is decelerating....this thing is screaming skyward.

That was superb before, now its so completely beyond that I am nearly unable to find a description worthy of it.

Excellent ... no ... Glorious ... nah  I know! Gloriously Excellent and even then that is still understating the impact of the Avatar racing to the rescue of someone in dire need of rescue!

Hydraulic failure due to minor battle damage, that's why it also looks like it's moving way too fast for landing.  ;D ;D ;D

(I'm like a conspiracy theorist, I'll always come up with some B.S. answer. )

Great in flight display!    Did you just paint the 'streaks' or did you smudge them on?  I was going to do a similar base for a couple of RW Spitfires, but never got around to it.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Absoultely stunning, Mr Howling Mouse!

You've built some truly incredible works of art, but seeing you complete this epic project tops them all in my book! The in-flight display with the very cool blurred runway is the perfect way to set this crown jewel off.

Thanks, guys----you made my day!  Mossie: the streaks are simply painted into place with a little bit of rubbed in pastel where I thought repetitive tyre contact would be on the runway.   Here are a few more images taken this time under natural light:
