As far as I can see there isn't a thread for these, but mods, if I'm wrong, please feel free to merge this thread.

So, what to do with the big twin-engined night-fighter/bomber/recce yaks then?

One thing I've always fancied is an advanced strike version, with the bomb-bay of the -28B, the tandem cockpit and solid nose of the -28P (but full of nav-attack avionics) and an Su-17-style outboard-pivot swing wing, the pivot points being above the engines.

I've talked about a swept wing Canberra today, so how about a straight wing Yak?  Could cause much head scratching when comparing it with an Il-28!

I think it might look good sticking the engines in the rear with intakes & horizontal tail on the fuselage.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

OR, how about moving a Brewer's engines from the wing to either side of the tail, and then passing it off as a Tupolev predecessor of the Tu-22?

Since I always like the idea of a classic plane with what-if avionics suite upgrades, I would think of an upgraded Yak-28P with R-40 and/or even R-27EM/ER/ET capabilities......

I have been looking for more pics but the Yak-45 was designed for the PFI competition that later became the Mig-29 (I know it doesn't quite fit with the numbers shown in the thread title but it has that Yak look to it!)

Maybe start a build with an F-18 Fuselage?  :huh: Yakovlev sized up the design to try and get the contract for what became the Flanker and there is a pic of it out there but i can't seem to find it  :banghead:

... na, short trapezoidal wing (think early Avro 730) and stick engines on the wingtips ala the Myasischev M-50.



So Yak-25 + 188 + 730 + M-50 =  :party:

Kit's First Rule of Whiffing says 'There's no aircraft in the world that can't be improved by fitting longer, straighter wings'  :lol:

So the answer is a Mandrake with even LONGER wings and the odd missile or two! I've been scrabbling about with something like this for a while, a Broplan Mandrake mated with an A-Model Yak 28 with wings from an U-2 or TR-1.

Can't make them all fit yet, but I'm working on it. It'll be a Yak-25PV, which translates to 'Perekhvatchik Vysotnyj (High altitude interceptor)' and it's NATO name will be Firedrake' (Firebar + Mandrake....... ;))

Good idea, although maybe base it on the -28 with it's high-mounted wing, which might let you put the underwing engines in M-50-style pods (assuming that the new aircraft's four engines are smaller than the old ones).

While digging out the kits for my Yak-25PV 'Firedrake' (see post #9 above) I found a kit for a Yak-25 Flashlight inside the A Model Yak-28 box, along with the Yak-28 kit! I can't recall buying it, but I suppose I must have at some time or another. There's only rudimentary instructions and no sign of who made it.

Anyone got any ideas on who the manufacturer might be?

That looks just like the Red Hurricane Yak-25. I have one at home that I've been working on - I'll compare the bits and the instructions. They also had a Tu-14 Bosun before they went out of business.

Thanks for that, I can't imagine where I  got hold of one of them, I can't recall seeing Red Hurricane kits anywhere!  :o

That Tu-14 must be the only kit of that aircraft ever produced, I don't even think Airmodel did it, and they surely did produce some odd-ball machines.
