I have a vacform Tu-14 - made by Sutcliffe Productions.

Hehe, I might have guessed it!  ;D

Either them or Magna were possibles.

There was a straight wing Yak-25.  The Yak-25RV "Mandrake".
Alright then, how about a SHORT, straight, very thin wing Yak-25 with a -28P nosecone: sort of Ruskie Bristol-188.

Kit's First Rule of Whiffing says 'There's no aircraft in the world that can't be improved by fitting longer, straighter wings'

So the answer is a Mandrake with even LONGER wings and the odd missile or two! I've been scrabbling about with something like this for a while, a Broplan Mandrake mated with an A-Model Yak 28 with wings from an U-2 or TR-1.

Can't make them all fit yet, but I'm working on it. It'll be a Yak-25PV, which translates to 'Perekhvatchik Vysotnyj (High altitude interceptor)' and it's NATO name will be Firedrake' (Firebar + Mandrake....... ;))

You know one of these days, I'm going to stick some Starfighter wings on a U2 fuselage just for you....

Hehe, LOVE that idea!

If you want any spare U-2 fuselages, I think I have about four of them by now.  ;D

Thanks for that, I can't imagine where I  got hold of one of them, I can't recall seeing Red Hurricane kits anywhere!  :o

That Tu-14 must be the only kit of that aircraft ever produced, I don't even think Airmodel did it, and they surely did produce some odd-ball machines.

Kit, You definitely have the Red Hurricane Yak-25 kit. You're missing the painting decal guide, though. I'll scan it in later.
Do you have the canopy? It should be a long vacuformed job. If not, you may have the very rare Yak-25 UAV

I was tempted to get the Tu-14 when it was available, but after seeing the effort Ken Duffey went through to get a decent model, I passed.

Frank,

Thanks for confirming that. I do have a paint/decal guide drg but it's on the other side of the instructions in my piccie, and I don't have an X-ray camera.  ;D

Not sure about the canopy, I'll have to dig deeper in the box. With two kits worth of stuff in there, there's not much room for air, let alone a canopy but I'll have a look. As for the UAV version, I rather like that idea........  ;)

After looking at the piccies of Ken's 'Bosun' I have to say the 'Beagle' is a better looking beast, but of course a Canberra is MUCH prettier. Me biased? You bet!

These should be released in 1/48.

I have a bunch of links on my computer that I don't read as often as I probably should.  One of these is Sentinel Chicken's "Aviation Trivia of the Day" blog.  Yesterday's entry concerned the demise of Yakovlev as a major producer of combat aircraft:

http://aviationtrivia.blogspot.com/2010/12/how-aleksandr-yakovlevs-rivalry-with.html

Buried within are a couple of pictures of the lone Yak-28-64, Yakovlev's attempt to build an aircraft to match Sukhoi's Su-15.

See, even Yakovlev was a Whiffer at heart!  ;D

I do like that one, and it's well do-able too!

I have one of the Bosuns. its one of those kits you take out of the box - look at it - replace in box, and return to stash. I'll do a few more Amodel ones first I think.

I seem to remember a book saying that the problem with Yak-28-64 is just that the layout is poorly executed, not that the idea behind layout is bad to begin with (the book is put away for moving though, so I cannot refresh that fragmented memory now).
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!
