Im not sure that the visibility would be nearly good enough for a fighter. I hadnt really considered a role for the aircraft, I just thought it would be interesting to see.

Maybe a photo-recon plane. Or, put the "cockpit" glazing underneath for the bombardier (looking downward), and have the pilot use the clear nose.

Or, make a "Whittle-Hampden" with jets instead of props (Gloster Meteor-type through the wings), and the sleek nose would have "inispired" the Ar-234!!

Going on a completely different tangent, purely cause I want to build one for gaming purposes......

Wings reversed so it becomes a pusher. Tail deleted so it becomes a flying wing.

Could someone with more drawing skill then me (aka everyone) cobble up a pic for that? And could the Airfix kit be converted like that?

Could be a bitch to build though, the wings wil be the wrong section for a start, facing backwards I mean.

Filling in all the flap and aileron hing lines would help, and maybe re-scribe some on the new trailing edge? Fairing the wing roots into the fuselage will be a bit of a job too, lots of filing and filling I'll be bound.

Is that sketch OK or would you like a side view too?

Yup, lot's of filling and rescribing or simulating with paint.

The view is good enough for me, I'll recycle some of the tail surfaces to propably add extra bits on the engine top and lower part. Bit like on the one on the right > http://www.zteamproductions.com/crimson/CoastlineLarge.jpg

Thumbing through this thread for the fist time in ages and I'm reminded of this profile from GTX:

Fantastic Whif idea and if there's a half-price Hampden in Holborn Modelzone tomorrow.......

Makes me think of a slightly higher-tech twin-engined Wellesley with externally slung torpedoes (as opposed to internally-stowed as per the real-world Hampden.  Quite a bit of weight saving there I'd have thought, offset to an extent by the drag penalty incurred by the torpedo, so I wonder what the performance gain could be?

If you're going for the two external torpedoes, you may want to re-engine it with a pair of Hercules engines.  It would need the extra power.

That would work out very well actually.  I have a spare pair for another whif project that frankly would probably work better with a pair of Pegasus engines, even if the kit renditions aren't that brilliant.
