watched "District 9" yesterday & saw this 1:1 scale whif.
The moved used real Sth African Army vehicles like Caspirs & a police armoured-truck except this one ...

It's a standard 6x6 Ratel apc with an extra set of steering wheels added to the front making it an 8x8 -- also some extra cosmetic side-windows.

That's not Ratel, it's a Rooikat hull.  ;)  Still a Whif though ... unless that's the long-elusive ICVTD (Infantry Combat Vehicle Technology Demonstrator)!

Found out this beast is a mish-mash done by a movie-supplier of vehicles -- he cuts up hulls & mix'n'matches upper & lower bits !

Also thought it was a Rooikat at first, but the distance between the second and third axle is too long and the distance between the third and fourth axle is far too short for that. I'd also guess it's a modified Ratel.

The side windows arn't extras - a Ratel has four exactly similar ones on the right hand side. The front one is lower than the other three because it's set in the side door, not the hull. I presume the doors are non-funtioning on this one.

Indeed - in other shots, you can see that it has a Saracen grill at the front.

It has working rear doors (seen in an out-take).  Not sure wheter the engine IS moved to the front as there is a large black box in the center of the troop area -- probably the engine is moved forward enough to have full-width doors for the entry photo-shoot.

There is a website of the vehicle maker (buys & sells ex-army trucks etc) but it's in Africaans.

I meant the side doors, but good point about the full width rear ones. I found a still showing that the left-hand side door still works, but it looks like the right hand one is sealed.
