Captain Canada

I've got one in the stash, along with the Magna conversion set. I started chopping it up to do a RW bird in the RCAF Air Div, but I've kinda lost my desire to have one of every RW CDN a/c, so it might turn I to a whif ( someday, but you know what John Fogerty says ) Maybe a floatplane ? I like the idea of turbines.

Beauty. That's a really nice job Robert. We need a pic of the nose with the big eyeballs. My Grandfather took some pics of her at Baden back in the day.

I love the look of those profiles. That 216 would be fun to build.

Okay, it's a thread for anything about Bristol Freighters, but you may notice a theme developing in my thinking here......

How about helicopterizing one of these? With a huge single rotor and engines on short pylons, it would look like a giant CH-37 Mohave...... ;D

You mean something along the lines of a Rotodyne, only a lot bigger, say, along the lines of an Mi12?

Captain Canada

I found a little shop today and they have both a Freighter and a Rotodyne ! As well as the old SRN-4 or whatever that big hovercraft was. Too expensive tho 29 dollars each.

Fly are supposed to be doing a new 1/72 Bristol 170 Freighter this year, they started to put it as a future release in Magazines, although no sign of it on their website as yet

The RNZAF used the Bristol Freighter during the Borneo Campaign eventually replacing them with the Hercules.

wonder which turboprops would give enough power Allisons, RR Tynes or RR Darts?

couple of Ideas spring to mind paint scheme wise:-

RAF middle east cammo
RAF transport command
RAF Grey/Green cammo
RNZAF Veitnam cammo like they painted their Andovers

Go Large! Two RR Tynes would give 12000 bhp, almost enough for VTOL on a good day.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

If the wings were tilted slightly VTOL.
I once used the wings from a C-130 on a Freighter, didn't look out of place.

Well I was thinking of something more simple like an early piston-engined helo with the wings cut off at the engine pods, but a Rotodyne-style design would work too.

Bearing in mind that the Freighter has a direct lineage from the Bombay,
how about a continuation of the bomber-transport concept?
