AAC Green/black scheme?

I have a memory of Army Air Corps Helos sporting a rather dark two-tone green* scheme at one stage, but I must admit, I can't find a pic of it.

1) Am I dreaming?

2) If I'm not, does anyone know what the actual colours were?

3) If I am, then what are the colours in the current green/grey scheme as seen on Lynxs?

Thanks in advance.

*Thread title edited to reflect supplied inof that this scheme was in fact green & black (but not fairtrade...)

It was black and green as the most common area they were expected to be used in was the forests of Germany which, being mostly coniferous, are very dark.

The change to grey/green was for a more open battlefield scenario where it was envisaged there would be a lot of smoke about, hence the grey.

Off hand I do not know exactly which shades are appropriate.

Not AAC helos, it was RAF medium transports; i.e. Wessexi and Pumas.

There is a picture of a Scout in Hong Kong in two-tone green but I can't find it at the mo but when I do I'll post it.

No it was AAC too: I found a tiny picture of a Scout in Green/Black and I'm sure I've seen Lynxes in it too. IIRC, the Airfix Army Lynx had this colour scheme on the box art too.

Yeah, AAC Lynxes wore a green/black scheme from their introduction until they started to be re-painted in the green/grey scheme around 1985ish, Scouts wore it too in mid to late service.  It was a semi gloss finish, weathering to matt.  I don't know the exact name of the green I'm afraid.  I think the black is called 'anthracite', in British Army nomenclature.

This is the scheme that's on the Airfix boxart:

Cheers Mossie - that's exactly what I meant!

Okay then, has anybody actually got this kit, or another of the same subject? If so, could you do me a favour and have a look at the instructions for the paint codes of the green & black scheme please?

By odd coincidence I'm right now looking over a Modeldecal sheet with markings for a green/green Wessex.  The colors given on that sheet are Matt Medium Green (Lichen) BS4800 and Matt Dark Green (NATO IRR) BSC241.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

IIRC, same greens used on the GR.5 Harriers.

That's correct Brad and those colours are used on Pumas too. I recall seeing a Scout first-hand in that scheme, I think it was at the big helicopter meet at Middle Wallop in the mid or late-eighties. The black wasn't a true black from memory, it was definitely a very, very dark grey so 'anthracite' sounds right. The green seemed to be quite olive in tone.

Would that be Nato Green and Nato Black as per the Military Vehicle fleet ? (both available in Tamiya colours)

Revell 9 might work better than Humbrol 33 in that case, it's a slight 'off-black'.  I use it for tyres & sometimes cocpit coamings & the like.  It's the kind of colour that you can't really tell it's not black until you look at it next to something that is.

If you don't like Revell paints (not my favourite, they're a bit thick & I only use them for small areas), you could drop some dark grey into the 33.
