What if instead of the Grumman Tracker, the U.S Navy bought the  Fairey Gannet built under licence from Mcdonnel ? Could it have looked somthing like this ?
Kit. Nova Gannet from model show for £1.

Very nice!

The funny thing is, when you mention McDonnell as the proposed manufacturer, it doesn't really look like something that would come from their stables. Ironically, as you're putting the Gannet in place of the Tracker, the Gannet does look like something that could have come straight from Grumman themselves. The whole design just reeks ruggedness.

Similarly, the Blackburn Buccaneer, which the US Navy is said to have given serious consideration to over the Intruder, also looked like something Grumman themselves could have churned out off their own drawing boards. The same ruggedness oozing out of every panel junction.

Oh I like VERY much!!!!! That's one sweet little model, mind if I try a profile of it?
Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Please feel free to profile. That would be cool.
I guess Grumman would probably be the licensee but that would have meant them not offering the Tracker ?
Interesting stuff this!!

Well you could have the Tracker lose a flyoff competition to the Gannet or perhaps just have the Tracker fail miserably in prototype stage and yank the funding in favour of the Gannet.

Mind you, either way would be like adding insult to injury if Grumman got the licence. Looking at it twice from some angles, the Gannet could also have come from Vought...

Nice model.  Very well done.  I think that the Gannet looks better in those colors than the RN colors.

Wow! This really looks sweet!

I would agree that "Grumman" rather than McDonnell should be the licensee, since the alliterative "Grumman Gannet" rolls off the tongue so well.

But then again, Grumman's sea-bird names were reserved for amphibians. Since the "Grumman Guardian" seems the closest USN equivalent, maybe "Sentinel" would fit for this Gannet clone.

The twin-engined Grumman Tracker is still in widespread use today (in fire-fighting), so I would be reluctant to deem it a failure that the Gannet replaced. More like a Guardian replacement.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

That is a great looking model, and in that paint scheme it really does look like a USN aircraft.  Well done!!!
