Thing is, the max TO weight of a Tucano is nearly 600lb heavier than that of a Mk.V Spitfire and the lowest-powerred version has 750 bhp. I think it would be more in the class of the Miles Master than the Magister and would need a de-rated Kestrel at least.

I guess you don't have to worry about the weight so much, but dimension wise it's pretty close to the Master rather than Magister.  Strictly speaking, if you want to make it look more authentic, thicken the wing, lose the nose wheel (which will drop a few hundred pounds) & put in a more framey canopy, but it depends how far you want to go.

RAF will be glad to get shot of the Tucano they were another political buy. Following the collapse of 2 US companies in Northern Ireland Learfan and Delorean the govt needed to create jobs so SHORLAC Shorts light aircraft company was set up to build the new Trainer for the RAF in the Tucano. It was built to car tolerances not aircraft and therefore all the aircraft are different sizes length's/wingspans and have slightly different handling characertistics from their differnet centre of gravities. I suspect the PC21 is in the front runners.

So the Beech T-6C looks to be replacing the Tucano in RAF service (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-west-wales-29766179).

Guess the Airships won't have to fret over a name (Harvard T. Mk 1, anyone?).

Canada has been operating them for years, called a CT-156 Harvard II over here

So are they American, Swiss, Candian or Australian?

At least the Tucanos were built in Belfast, and tested with a test rig installed by me.....
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

They're made by Beechcraft Kit, in the States they're call Texan II's.  I'd imagine there will be a Brit connection somewhere, maybe assembled or even as the Tucano was built, which was after all -a Brazilian designed and built aircraft

Kit, turning to the Big Boys and Girls Book of World Knowledge we find:

Over 700 are to be built for the United States Air Force and United States Navy, with Pilatus receiving royalties.

So, rightly the T-6 Texan II is really an American variant.   I'm sure the British one will have British equipment installed, making it slightly different, yet again.

The RAAF one is different again:

The Australian variant is a little more different than that, with larger mainwheels which necessitated bulged gear doors and a beefed up wing structure from the standard PC-9 IIRC to allow hard points under the wing.  The larger mainwheels were to allow some rough field capability, to fit in with the RAAF's plans to use the PC-9s as FACs and light attack aircraft from barebones bases in the Top End in the Fortress Australia plans of the late 1980s.

From a modellers standpoint, I'd love to see the Super Tucano in 72nd. Love the look of that a/c. Way tougher and cooler looking than the Texan/ Harvard II ( which by the way I think is cheese, some a/c names shouldn't be reused )

I have two Tucanos on the go at home, a yellow trainer and a green army bird. Like I said, love that shape !
