[EDIT]--Somehow I first clicked on page 2 by mistake---this is in response to several now-"old" posts on a Super-Yamato:

http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/bb/ijn/sy-700-en/en-index.html

Yes! That's the Shinano next to the "Super-Yamato". I clicked on "Erick Navas" and found the Shinano, and when I clicked on it that same photo came up.

The "Super-Yamato" depicted was a planned "upgrade" to twin-20" guns on a new battleship instead of the triple-18" guns of the Yamato, plus about 10,000 tons additional weight. Frankly I don't think it would have been an upgrade, as the firing cycles and total tonnage per 6-gun broadside would not have been as great as 9 "lesser" guns. Such a monster BB is in my "to Victory Through Seapower" game, however. I doctored an illustration a long time ago for my game:

http://www.combinedfleet.com/furashita/satsum_f.htm

My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

The main guns might not have per se been an upgrade, though the individual striking power of one round would have been quite devastating to essentially Anything that floated.  The AA Battery though would have been a MASSIVE upgrade as the turrets on the Fujimi Super Yamato are actually shielded twin 10cm/4.9" guns, which were essentially the best DP gun the IJN had.  Shinano as Battleship was planned for the 10cm in the AA battery, and I plan on doing a model of Shinano as Battleship, alongside my Shinano as Carrier piece.

He's at it again!  This time its a super-sized DDG!

That's a nice take on an elongated Burke.  I'm partial to my cruiser Burkes, but that's just me  ;D

Anyone extend Dave an invite to join us over here?

I haven't done that - unless without knowing - I'll toss him one through a mutual friend who's also a member here.

That cruiser Burke is great except the ABLs - they've all long been retired. VLS is much easier to work with and launch.
I would suggest to him to remove them and replace it with a hangar and launchers for UAVs and USVs.

The reworked Ticonderogas are cool!

The 20" Super Yamatos might have been built, but would have been nearly useless. The 18" physically damaged the ships, and harmed the AA gun crews. 20" guns could have killed exposed crew members.
Also, Japanese gun manufacturing wasn't up to making 20" guns. They would have sagged, and suffered whipping when fired, so much so that accurate ship-to-ship gunfire would have been too difficult.

Taking that into mind, I was always keen on this design from "Adm. Furashita" where 18" guns were cut down and turned into high-angle ship based heavy mortars.

As for the ABL's on the Burke stretch, I agree, but depending on below deck stuff, VLS might not work there.  I do like his liberal use of RAM launchers, though.  Gotta get me some of those JAG resin ones.

EDIT:  Found another Burke based WHIF, but in CGI form (Paintshop edit?) only.  This is the USS Shanksville from the mind of Jeff Head.

Another one from the Model Warship Galleries.  This WHIF 1/72nd scale Composite Patrol Vessel built by Aidan Sweeney is fabricated from aluminium sheet metal and hand made.

This carrier is built from the HMS Hood!  The modeler built a carrier from a Harry Turtledove novel; a CV from a battlecruiser.  His Hood was wrecked thanks to the USPS so it became the basis.  Looks great!

Anyone ever see this sub before?

It's from this Japanese fiction movie here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorelei:_The_Witch_of_the_Pacific_Ocean
IIRC, I have a modeling friend who not only has a model of the sub, but also the DVD movie too. There is supposed to be more pics on a blog somewhere on the Net of this model, but I cannot find them anymore. :(
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

NARSES2

Think they'd better take the barrel plugs out before they fire the guns ! Didn't a U-Boat of Aruba in 41/42 forget to do that in it's excitement and had to just sit and look at the refinery instead of firing on it  :banghead:

Seriously I've always liked these "Submarine Cruisers". Had the Heller ? Surcouf once and it would be nice to see the RN WWI types in model form.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Looks awfully similar to the Surcouf (for example: http://ahoy.tk-jk.net/macslog/FrenchSubmarineSurcoufthe.html.

Did not know that is how the turret rotated. Looks like the Surcouf had a hanger rather than a cradle for a minisub.

I wouldn't mind getting a model of that one - I like the esoteric and odd submarines - I-400, Surcouf, Typhoon... they're rather neat and cool in my perspective.  That and the thought of a submersible battleship would be rather cool to me... just gotta figure out how to design it.

I found this in Chorse6's gallery from the 2009 IPMS Nats.

I'm still looking for better pics.  It's labeled USS Ohio, BB (?) 86 (or 88).  I might not've noticed it was a whif, except that the A and B turrets are sporting four guns each.  A Tillman battleship, maybe?

BB-86 would involve a LOT of Battleship building, as they would have just broken into the 70's with the successors to the Montanas, but looking closer, I Think that's marked 66 instead.  US Ship, Quad Turrets (only ever a paper design in the States), and a Germanic Splinter-Dazzle like that.  What a poor, confused ship.

Wait a minute... I think I know who built that monster... gimme a moment here.

Yep, I KNEW I'd seen that monster before - that thread above is the build thread of the ship.  He did good on the dio base he wanted to put it on too.

Quad 14" were planned for USS North Carolina and Washington.
It is quite a mixture of designs.
