Hi folks,

Another favourite that I couldn't find a dedicated thread on - the FMA IA 58 Pucara:

Whiff away with ideas - my first: a USMC or even US Army Pucara as a lightweight alternative/compliment to A-10s/attack helicopters.

Are the Pucara's pylons plumbed for drop tanks? I know you see tanks on them, but that could well be napalm, of which they were fond (we certainly found plenty on the Falklands...).

Forget the Bronco, how about an updated Pucara as a contender for the USAF's light attack contest?

One I was only thinking of today and then found someone beat me to it (in photoshop that is):

And my crude rendition of such - be a potent beast with a couple of PT6A-68s!

I honestly can't remember - I should have guessed it would have been one of the nuts here ;D.

Good job!

I was thinking it would make a useful light COIN/CAS bird for Afghanistan and other 'fun' places.

Hey very nice Clave
Would have been very handy in Afghanistan! Then again this could mean that we would not have seen the Su-25 Frogfoot materialise :banghead:

Wasn't there a version or proposed version powered by Garretts? Kind of like the mod done to some of the Jetstreams?

Yeah, it was the IA-66:

Another prototype was the IA-58B, which replaced the four 20mm Hispanos with two 30mm DEFA cannon, see the cutouts on the lower fuselage beneath the standard ones:

There was a single seat version as well, the IA-58C:

Might be worth putting all three of those mods together for a whiff.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Real proposal for a jet Pucara, powered using a pair of Turbomeca Astafans.  The Astfan proved succesful in testing but never entered production.  Seems to include the 30mm DEFA cannon of the B variant.  Can't help thinking of a Gatling gun in the nose with that engine configuration!

I like the single seat version, thats what I was thinking about when I introduced the new ground  attack plane for the Stoke on Trent Airforce in PW, the Swynnerton Arms Company Adder

I wish I was a good enough modeller to do that
