"Houston, we got photo etch!"  :o Nice work on the PE stuff. Also have that Flyhawks Russian Radar Set. Not sure what to use it on, though. The instructions kinda scare me. New to PE and this looks pretty darn complicated and fiddly.

Just noticed the re-designed SSM launchers on the Sovremenny. Just one word: Cooooool!
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Dankeshon, Moritz - the etch was... interesting.  Long Beach also, if you look, has etched VLS cells... those were just Fun *sarcasm dripping off the words* to build.  I picked up the etch set originally for the Flat Screen radar, with plans to put that into use on one of my projects.  The instructions are a little confusing I will admit, Moritz, but I found with the Plate Steer set, they don't quite recommend the most effective way to go about it.  When I built the dish, I started by rolling the dish, then the back piece - I set the upper and lower edges to the back of the dish, then the center beam points, and folded the braces into place.  The instructions require a little bit of thinking outside the box, as they don't quite go together as the pictures suggest, so you have to work with what's there and go from that point.

Thankyou about the Sovremenny II - I intended it to be a subtle look, and to retain a semblance of that sharp look that is the Sovremenny, just focusing on stealth aspects and more modern equipment.

The photo etch radar set looks good.  I also like how your Long Beach is shaping up.  I know that guns were mostly an afterthought, but I always wondered why the original 5"/38s were never beached in favor of 5"/54s, so those Mk.45s look nice.  I see the VLS; will you also be going with Aegis radars?

The etch radar is quite an interesting set, and I like the variety of details it adds for the Russian ships - quite a comprehensive set for the search and lighter director radars.  Long Beach is getting 5/62's in truth, not 5/54's - I have a set of the Sea MAster 5/62 barrels for the broadside, and a plan for something bigger in a 10" or so bore on the bow for a nice shore-pounding gun.  AEGIS is the prime reason for the structure rebuild, well, that and trying to get rid of some of her Ugly-Stick heritage.  I'm also going to double up CIWS and RAM systems on board, in a centerline/broadside pairing, and give her a helicopter hangar in place of her old aft launchers.  I'm toying with other ideas for additions, not sure entirely just yet.

Been a little while since I posted anything here.  I've been a busy guy the last couple of days, building and working on ships that have either been waiting for a cue, or half-built for a while.  Two Abukuma DE's, and a Yamagumo DDK.  Pictured is my previous Yamagumo as well, just for kicks and giggles.  I'm not entirely sure what to put on the aft of the new Yamagumo, so ideas are welcome.  Anyways, here we go:

I really like the colors on those ships, Saur. Glad to see you getting a few out of drydock!

I'm really grooving the feel you have for those ships.  It's hard to make a ship in such a way that you look at it and go "Well that's obviously British/Mogolian/Yemeni, etc."  I think you've done a really good jobs of personalizing these ships to make them LOOK like they're from the ROJN and not just a cobbled together bit from here and there.

Rise, thread of glory, from the Dead!

Alright, it's been a long time coming, but here she finally is - Shinano, with her full compliment of aircraft, by my hand!

Pics are pretty straightforward.  Airgroup is C6N Scouts, J7W Fighters, D4Y Divebombers and B7A Attack Planes.  Justification for the J7W being a need for heavy hitting fighters - The answer to the hook solution came to me - put the hook further forward, so it hangs from the center fuselage - on Most aircraft that would result in a sharp pull forward when it engages, but in the case of the Shinden, it's actually possible, because of that nose gear, to resist the forceful slam of the nose to the deck when the hook kicks in.  The ship still has D4Y Dive bombers because of limited production of the B7A, which was intended to do both Dive and Level bombing.

So yes, as usual, commentary and thoughts welcome.
