Captain Canada

Wow...that is awesome ! Great stuff, indeed. It will look awesome with both British and American a/c on deck.

Can you get etched sets that have a catapult strip?  That way you can paint it first then glue it to the deck with CA.  The CA won't damage the paintwork & if you use it sparingly enough it shouldn't overspill onto to the deck.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

You probably dont need catapults as they would be the pneumatic variety and couldn't handle the weight of the larger aircraft anyway, the size of the flight deck would mean they should be able to take off even with the relatively slow wind speed over the deck.

Regarding the wireless aerials the USN had already started to replace the towers and wires with the early whip aerials and mixed both types on their Essex class so you could use a mix too.

One thing to consider if not adding cats would be to add finer yellow lines in the blocks either side of the centreline strip so single engine aircraft can use both sides, only the heavy stuff would need the full flight deck.

Slightly off topic, but could use a few opinions. ;)

Anyway, I got a rather interesting email from a modeling friend tonight. Seems the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Museum in Oshkosh, WI is having some type of family themed event in April: http://www.eaa.org/calendar/eventdetail.aspx?id=9485
I'm not sure who has been talking to whom or what was said, but the EAA is interested in having me display my Project Habakkuk aircraft carrier model there.   :o

Why, I don't know? There's no model contest there from what I could find out. Seems kinda odd for me to display a ship model there when the EAA Museum is mostly about aircraft and aviation instead, not ships.

I don't know. Should I go?

Houston, We have a Go!  After briefly talking to another modeling friend tonight, I've got transportation to the EAA and back home. Not sure what to expect at this event, but I'll hope to have plenty of pics to share when I get back. For now though, I've only got about a week and a half to finish detailing my model for presentation display.    I'm going to be damn busy in the next several days.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

I was browsing the Net again tonight for more reference material on Habakkuk and I read about an old magazine called "Model Boats" that had an article about Habakkuk in it. It was the March 1982 issue.
I highly doubt anybody would have that old of a magazine tucked away in their house somewhere. But if anybody did, Can you scan the article and send me a copy, please?

Sneak peek. ;) I'll answer any questions tomorrow after I get home from work. Right now, I'm off to bed after a frustrating and bad night modeling. :( Sorry for the blurriness of the pics. My camera sucks and I need a new one.

It should be strange seeing PBJ's taking off from a carrier, but they look right on the monster.

It's been a long road, but the end is nearly in sight. ;)  :drink: With a little luck, some patience,........and hopefully getting a new digital camera soon........I'll be able to show the final pictures of my Project Habakkuk model. I hope to have final pictures posted before the end of April.
For those who have helped me with advice and encouragement, I thank you. For the last two years, this whole project has been one hell of a beast to build. But now, I can finally say that the journey is almost at an end and I can breathe a final sigh of relief. Would I ever do this project again in the future? Hell no! I don't need any more headaches........especially with the damn engine pods.  ;D But for those who wish to build their own Habakkuk model in the future, I wish you good luck and I hope my information and construction techniques will help you out.
If anyone has any questions about my model and/or the construction methods, or anything about the history of Project Habakkuk, then feel free to ask and I'll help wherever I can. ;)

DONE!

Well, at least 99.9%.  ;D I'll still add a few aircraft with folded wings, and maybe a few extra B-25's on deck someplace. But for the most part, this ship is done! The British can now finally say they have a Habakkuk ship.......but only in 1/700 model form.  ;D    :drink:    :drink:
Final Habakkuk model pics are here:

Sorry if any pics are blurry or if anything else is wrong. I'm still learning how to use a new digital camera I got a few days ago.
As always, If anyone has any questions on anything, then just ask. :)

This has been a truly amazing journey on which we have been privileged to join you (do I sound pompous or what  ;D). Many thanks indeed for that and seeing the concept through

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The only thing I'm probably not going to do is detail the interior cross-section. If I did that, then people would be focused on that and not looking at the main ship when I go to contests. If I "retire" from taking this ship to any more contests in the future sometime, then I may detail the interior cross-section. ;)

A PBJ is actually in the planning stages for a future modeling project. ;)
