Thanks Lee. I'll try it over the weekend

Just a pointer on Fairey Power Spray.  I used it to strip a couple of models painted with Humbrol Acrylics.  I started scrubbing, then rinsed with water to get the worst off.  It reacted & I couldn't get the paint off after that.  I now don't rinse with water unti lI've got every last bit of paint off.  Not sure if this if this is just Humbrol Acrylics or if it applies to other paints as I've never risked it since.

Never had that problem but then I've never used Humbrol acrylics so I can't advise although I would suspect that it's limited to that paint.

One good thing though - you've put me off using Humbrol acrylics!  And after having a bad experience with the Revell acrylics, I would never use them again.  TBH, every time I've tried Revell paint, enamel or acrylic, I've hated it.  The enamel was thick and lumpy and the acrylics too watery,  Frankly, their paint is excrable and I'd never use it again.

I find the Humbrol Acrylics fine & a heck of a lot better than Revell Aqua paints, I don't find them much different to Xtracrylix.  Revell, wether it's their enamel or acrylics are pretty poor.  The only one I use is 09 Anthrazit, a kind of off-black that is good for tyres & radomes.

One I've used because it's crap is 25 Luminous Orange.  This seems to cover worse than any paint I've known, but over a matt yellow base looks good for faded dayglo orange!

Must admit I've been disapointed with Revell (only one I use is Anthracite as well). However I am finding some of the Humbrol acrylics dry out in the pot. Easy sorted with thinners but a bit of a pita. Mind you Tamiya & Lifecolour can dry out as well.

I've not had too much problem, until you get to the end of the pot.  Usually paint dries around the lid preventing it from shutting properly.  Just pull it out with a pair of tweezers (comes out in one piece) & the pots should last.

I don't think it's dry paint Mossie, but I'll have a look. I find I get dry paint with Citadel, but as you say it comes away in one lump and dosn't seem to effect the paint in the pot

Quick question.  As Modelstrip can be hard to find I'm thinking of trying the FPS option.  Before I do -
- does it work on enamels as well as acrylics (shudder)?
- can anyone recommend an ideal time to leave it on the model (does it depend on the paint and how many layers)?
- does it damage transparencies?

Cheers,

Easy answers:

Yes, it'll take off acrylics and enamels.  It even cuts through Halfords primer AND metallics.  Name me another paint stripper that'll do that!  I've a part finished Hornet that's being stripped now, Halfords primer, Humbrol enamel and Xtracrylix and it's gone back to the plastic.

Leave it as long as you like.  Minimum I'd advise perhaps two hours.  24 hours should really go through to the plastic.

No, but give them a bath in Kleer after they've been washed down.

OK, what's 'FPS' then? It post-dates my paint-stripping days, but it may be useful to know in the future.

Ahah, gotcha, thanks Lee.

I'll be talking to Mrs PR19 about that, we may have some in stock of course.

The photo below is my aforementioned Hornet undergoimng stripping.

The wings have had the paint removedalmost entirely.  The remains have a coat of FPS applied.  The grey is Halfords Primer, the green Humbrol enamel\ and the black - barely noticeable but it IS there - is Xtracrylix.

Proof, if any were needed, that FPS will remove most types of paint.

I've read that in the US the "Fairy Power Spray" is known as "Dawn Power Dissolver". Fairy Power Spray conjures images of manly men suddenly taking an interest in interior decorating and musicals after coming in contact with the stuff.
