I wonder why they went for the awkward "T.Mk.7 1/2" nomenclature? Surely it would have made more sense to use the next available whole number, so it would have been a "T.Mk.15" (assuming it came after the night fighters, of course)?

It was half a T7 and half an F8 I guess.

I don't think it was an official designation within the RAF, but all the ground crews at Benson called them '7 1/2s'.

I think that a 7.5 that was trialed with wing tip tanks was also the bases for the Reaper, a dedicated ground attack version of the Meteor.  So maybe there's one of those in the works --

That 7.5 is the one shown on the box lid Robert, the tanks have fins on the front and the back, very odd.

Regarding the Meteor T.71/2, I don't even think it was an official conversion, let alone a designation.  I think they came along as F.8's were being withdrawn and it was fairly swap job.  Some T.7's got the mod, some didn't, I don't think any were done on the production line?

The RAE had a chimera, VW411 that was a Meteor T.7, with a F.8 tail and a FR.9 nose.

They were the same aircraft IIRC, at least in part. It was a company demonstrator, I think the Reaper was converted into a trainer and got a new civil serial, then another when it was converted.  The tip tanks were kept for further trials.

I'm hoping that they'll do the Martin Baker ejection seat test beds as several of those were/are T.71/2s.  I bought the Xtrakit boxing of the F.8 and T.7 for just this purpose, now they've made life easier for me!

Except as far as I know all T7's produced by Fairey in Belgium had the F8 tail as standard. Certainly the Israeli ones in that configuration were all ex Belgian.

I've just read the painting instructions for the Belgian option on the MPM Blog.  It states that started life as a F.4, was converted to a T.7 then got the F.8 tail later.

Found out a few other things about the kit, the RAE bird with the recce nose (PR.10, not FR.9 as I mentioned) is an option.  Plenty of bits for the spares bin, there's the F.8 tail, PR.10 nose, wingtip tanks and two single seat canopies.

Looking at the sprues I'm thinking it's not worth getting the T.71/2 as I've already got the T.7 and F.8.  You still need to cut the the tail off.  If I put the T.7 tail on the F.8 do I get a F.4?  I think I need to shorten the nose, probably more hassle than it's worth.

Yes!  I've been meaning to bolt it on to a Hannants order but I haven't made one in ages.
