Hi chaps, latest offering for your perusal is my rendition of the mighty XB-70 Valkyrie, done as a production B-70C of the 7th Heavy Bombardment Wing, Strategic Air Command based at Carswell AFB, Texas circa 1972. Finished in NMF and semi gloss white and with appropriate SAC markings for the period.
The model is the newly re issued Italeri (ex AMT) kit which is not as straight forward a build as you would first think on opening the box!!I had the advantage of building one of these when AMT first biought them out so was prpared for all the many problems that lay ahead. The kit will eat all your available filler and wet and dry with ease so be prepared for a long slog...'gaps-R-us rules here!
The model also ate a substantial amount of my supply of primer and Alclad too.The decals were sourced from the spares box, Microscale B-52 and B-36 sets, Superscale USAF and stars and bars and red stripes, stencil sets and a doner B-58 sheet for the walkways!...nowt much from the original sheet !!
Anyway hope you like it..........All in all a fun bit of whiffery....
I apologise if you have already seen these on another site but the thing is difficult to photograph due to it's huge size (almost 3 feet long!!)....

Cheers all,

Melchett

That is stunning, gorgeous, jaw-dropping......simply awesome.

Question 1)  Do you ever build small models?
Question 2)  Where do you keep all these monsters?  Do you own southern Lincolnshire or summits?

Right, I'm off the whiffies thread with this baby tucked under my arm :)

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

What a fantastic build!!  IMHO, the B-70 was the most advanced aircraft ever build, considering the state of the art at the time.  In fact, in Dec 57, when the winning NA design was selected, our total experience to date with Mach 3 flight had been the one flight of the X-2 in 1956, and that crashed.  Here we were less than a year later with the design of an aircraft that not only flew at Mach 3, but cruised at Mach 3!!

I presume the serial number, "12095" would be a FY 71 serial, ie, 71-2095.  Both XB-70 prototypes were FY 62 models, so a C model from 9 years later would make sense.

Sleek, shiny, and sexy as hell - you sir, have done a great piece of work.  I haven't a clue where I'd put one, if I could get the money for one.
