Quotestroll over after 9:00am and then set the models up on the display. It means most displays are likely to be in mide setup for the first hour or two but it sounds like everybody is going to be in the same boat

That could be fun - dozens of modellers all trying to get in and get their stuff on the stands at the same time...

Ah well.

Exactly, it could work as long as those issued with the passes are the ones who actually set up the Branch/SIG stand along with some of the major models for display on it. If some are using the passes as a means to gain a preview to show and bargain hunting before it actually opens rather than issuing the passes to those who need them then it could prove a problem with late set up.

I have suggested on the IPMS forum that they keep a side door open on Hall 1 in the 9-10 period for exhibitors without passes, so that models being brought in for display are seperated from the IPMS visitors, the kitswap queue and the general public all coming through the doors into Hall 3. Would still need to be policed for valid IPMS membership, but it keeps modellers carrying their fragile models away from the crowds and checkpoints at the main enterance.
It's actually quite shocking how little regard some bargain hunters & hoarders have for the models on display, barging people out of the way carrying models so they can get in the halls sooner. These are the same muppets that help seal the fate of the undertable sales as they were more interested in what was under a table than whats on it - yeap i recall a prat flipping a cloth up onto the models on the table to be better able to see the kits for sale !!!! :banghead:

It's a real shame arseholes like this can't be forcibly ejected form the show all together!!

I one I remember was the short arsed runt of the litter who wandered up to the whiff stand while I was on my own manning it. He knelt down lifted the cloths and started opening up the boxes that we brought the models in. so i said that there were no sale items under the table, only to be told to F Off! and mind my own buisness. he got the message when i offered to break his legs.

I'm not an IPMS member.  Does that mean I can only bring my kits in at 10am?  I've never been in at the very start, what's the queue like at that time?  I plan to be there on Friday night, could I pass my kits to an 'authorised' member?

Also, does anybody meet up on the Friday night?  Lots of questions, I know!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

10 am can be pretty bad, you're better off arriving at 10.30, no queueing then (not last time at least).

as for friday i think a meating of those their should be arranged for a few drinks

Last year it wasn't too bad at 5 past 9.  There's a little bottle-up as people show their cards to get in, but thats it.  Of course this year it could be much worse if only a handful of people are allowed in before 9am for setting up......

If managed it shouldn't be too bad, as long as the the people with the branch/SIG stands have the passes and set the basics up during the set up period. The idiotic ones are where people horde the passes for their mates leaving the guy with stand gear without !!!! (Stupid - but its bound to happen).

I have suggested to the exec that they consider using a seperate doorway for members displaying in the 9-10 period to seperate out the general browsing members.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I think it's at the Park Inn off the top of my head, I've got the booking details somewhere.  It's close enough that I can walk across to the Holiday Inn easily, on the other side of the shopping centre IIRC.

Don't know if this has been answered already, but there usually is a meet up for drinks. Depends where you are staying of course, I'm in the holiday Inn this year again - costing me an arm and a bloody leg though - as it's right next door to the centre.

I'm almost glad I had to cancel my plans for staying the three nights up there.

It looks like it will be chaotic at the entrances as many people who are just trying to ease the burden of their fellow SIG and Branch members in setting up the stands will be denied entrance. They in turn will get angry, having forked out serious money for an overnight stay that they need not have paid out! The IPMS Committee, or whoever decided on limiting the numbers, should think before they bow to the all powerful insurance companies. Who in turn should stop being so damn greedy and think about their customers before their yearly bonuses, for sure that's REALLY what it's all about!

And I might add I speak from the position of having been an IPMS Committee member for a good many years in the past.......

ohh the exsec have taken a lot of flak over this, but in a way for once this isnt realy their fault. They are just playing by the book (as dictated by T.I.C.) to cover the societys arse.

Ive also heard that it wasnt just T.I.C. who wanted the pre show access better managed.  It would seem some of the traders have been asking for at least an hour in the mornings to restock re arrange ect, with out marauding early bargin hunters getting in the way.

Althou some of us will have access before 9am, I have a feeling that any one wandering around or pestering traders and not activly working on a stand, is likly to get challenged by either the T.I.C goons or show staff. And may even be told to leave until the place opens for members at 9am.
I always hope for the best.
