Buddys need help on theory on project odin

I want to mount a me 262 on my bomber.  Similar like this



Do you think it could have a release and be able to take flight in mid air?

Don't see why not John as the German's had several Mistel ideas for the airframe.

I can see launching a Me262 from atop a B-36 in that manner, but I can't see recovering to the upper fuselage that way; you'd have to recover like the Ficon system did to a framework that would retract at least partially into the bomb bay.  If you're doing that, you might as well launch from there, too.  If this is an escort operation, you might consider fitting out a B-36 to carry multiple fighters and mixing these carriers in with standard B-36s in the stream of bombers.

I don't think the Mistel was supposed the recover. Then again, i'm not sure what the Odin project is.

lol , yeah the recovery was not sure of. I was thinking of putting gas tanks on it so maybe it could make it home? but great idea! Thanks so much.

Oh project Odin is just what I'm call my first what if Model   its based on b36 air frame. However heavily modified.

Yeah exactly like a mother plane and idea was to have the me 262 be a emergency interceptor if needed.

Sounds more like the derivation of the F-85, an interceptor fighter that could be launched from the B-36 bomb bay if needed.  I think you'd be better off with dedicated carrier aircraft with at least a couple Ficon-carried fighters a piece.  Carrying one on the topside has got to add drag and be difficult on the pilot of the interceptor.

If you think about it, the Shuttle Transport Craft (747 that ferries the Space Shuttle around) is for all intents and purposes, a descendant of the Mistel.  NASA has all sorts of trouble with the drag on that beast, they even give a tail cone to the shuttle to help things out on the drag end of things.  That is modern day with one of the premier aeronautic brains in the field running the beast.

Well, that's why I suggested dedicated "carrier" aircraft.  I've worked on too many aircraft over the years not to have some appreciation for drag and what induces it.  Now, if you lengthened the bomb bay (since it's a constant section, you could probably lengthen the aircraft both in front and behind the wing to maintain cg), you could carry one Ficon aircraft and one atomic bomb and still have a reasonable chance of recovering the fighter.

Drag is definitely an important consideration for A/C combos. One interesting approach was using wingtip connections as shown here:

Of course that arrangement has its own operational challenges, but it is noteworthy that both successful in flight separations as well as reattachments were performed before the program was terminated following a fatal accident.
