This is my third model for the SIG display at SMW.
The TBM Avengerski.
Base kit is the Hasegawa TBM.
Inspiration is from John "Maverick" Lacy's profiles for Russian Avengers.

So we start with the first photo, and this one has appeared already in the forum as I was wanting to find out what kit the spinner came from. Tim (thedarkmaster) thinks it is from the Matchbox P-40N, and going by the colour of the plastic he may well be right, BUT, I do not remember every having that kit. (it could be an age thing) and NO I do not want any answers to that, thank you very much.

The next change to the basic kit is the gun turret, and many many thanks to Alun (Pyro-manic) for the bits to build that.

Now to the build.
There is realy very little being done to the kit, other than the afforementioned, except the blisters on the top of the wings to accomodate the extra wing guns.

That is it for the moment. To-morrow is the Glasgow show, so it will be a few days begore I get anything more done, but she will be ready for SMW.

Here is the turret, almost finished, just alittle bit of tidying up to do.

Thanks again Alun for the bits.

All hail to Mr. Eduard and his quick masks, although, even with the precut masks it was a bit of a marathon doing that canopy.

Nicely done.  A nice lend-lease possibility.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

.....and here is the back story.

During WW2 the Soviet Union received many aircraft from both the UK and the USA. One that is less well documented is the Grumman/General Motors TBM Avenger. This is possibly due to the fact that the Soviets received a relatively small number of them compared to other types, due to the fact that the US Navy had a high requirement for them in the Pacific war. Records are unreliable, but it looks like only 47 were delivered.
The Russians liked the aircraft, but did modify them a bit. The principle change was the gun turret, which they replaced with a taller one fitted with two guns. They also fitted four guns in the wings.
To augment the internal weapons bay, a single bomb rack was fitted under each wing.
Some aircraft were retro-fitted with a four-bladed propeller, complete with spinner.
The aircraft were very heavily used during the war to the extent that none survived to be preserved in the Soviet Air Force museum at Monino.

Ooo! What a beauty! And a good story to go along. Allow me to refer to the topic on imaginary NATO reporting names so you can pick an name for that bird!

Ah! SG2006, but none of them survived long enough to be included in the NATO reporting scheme.
However this is What If, so how about B for a bomber and a one sylable word, because it is prop driven.
Brick would appear to be the most appropriate.
