Is nice, high five!
It reminds me of two real aircraft (yes, OK three if you count the real Avenger!).  It's all to do with the effect the four-bladed prop plus spinner has on the overall appearance, but it is that vwey front end that reminds me a little of the Fairey Spearfish (see photo), and a real Soviet design, the name of which escapes me.  I must trawl sources to try and find it!  ;D ;D

Kitbasher, I think you will find the Soviet one, is the Sukhoi Su-2.

Comrade, is glorious improvement of decadent western design.  Simples!

A nice work! I'm glad to see another model in Soviet colors. But, nevertheless, I have some little critical notes - are they welcome?

Yes, in this particular case it's a what-if, BUT... Maybe this info would be useful for somebody's future works. There was NO two-color green/brown camo scheme in Soviet VVS during the WWII ! There were a lot of color profiles published especially in old literature, and there is plenty of models painted in this way - but this is a mistake, such a scheme never existed! The only Soviet aircrafts painted green/brown were those of British origins, remaining with their native DE/DG camo (Hurricanes, Hampdens, some P-40s, etc...) The profile by Maverick, with three-color camo, is more plausible.

Another note is that in Soviet service, Avenger would be used from the ground, and most probably from unpaved field airbases. Its little tailwheel seems to be unsuitable for this duty. It would be much more practical to replace it with a bigger one.

Excepting this - I like it!

Redstar72,

I used the scheme from the Academy Il-2 (and the transfers and bombs).

OK Jim, the camo is not your mistake. Your mistake was to believe into these decadent "Academicians"   ... Their scheme is wrong, Il-2 weren't painted in this way, as any other Soviet aircraft weren't. In early-WWII era Il-2 were painted in two-color green / black scheme, and in 1943 two versions of three-color scheme were introduced (see pictures below).

Yes, of course, your model is a what-if. Maybe this particular Avenger arrived from England   ...

Thanks for that RS72/Alexander,
I do try to make my WhIfs as correct/believable as possible.(Well some of them. ;D)
Now a question, and I know that OGL has already done a model of this, but I want to do it right. Think "Cab Rank Sturmovick".
If the Russians had sent aircraft to support the Normandy landings, and subsequent operations, what camouflage pattern/colours do you think they would have worn?

It would be an Il-2? Would it be in Soviet markings, or any other Allies nation?
I think you can use one of these two schemes, with Invasion Stripes added.

And who is OGL?
