They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Timely information Comrades, as I was about to paint my Sagdeyev Sag-2 Biram in brown/green/blue.  Back to the drawing board (or perhaps not, thanks to redstar72's info.
So what were the shades of colours actually used, redstar72?  Any close FS numbers?  ;D ;D

OK, quick web research - the following appear to be good links:
http://www.fritzthefox.com/soviet_camo_guide.html
http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Markings/NKAP/il2/il2-3colour.htm
http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Markings/Yak7_White03/index.php
http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Research/colour-samples.php
http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Camouflage/NKAP_Template1.php
I'd say the information on the Hobbyvista pages shows that JayBee and Redstar72 are both correct in their Il-2 camouflage assumptions.
Hope the pages help - they've already helped me.   ;D ;D

You can find some info here: http://scalewiki.ru/амт. A lot of info at http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_954.html and http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_6209.html, but in Russian only. You also can find something useful at http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=175255.

Don't rely very much to Hobbyvista site - its main author, Eric Pilawskii, is not very respected person among Russian researchers and modelers. There are a lot of mistakes and misinterpretations in his books and site, like the mysterious "A II Brown" paint which existence isn't confirmed by any Russian document... The colours of his profiles are too light, too bright and considered by many as "acid". And what's the worst - Eric doesn't admit his mistakes, but consider everybody who criticize him as his personal enemy...

Humbrol 79 is close enough to AMT-11 blue-grey (the lighter of two grey colours in post-1943 "fighter" camo), and Humbrol 32 to AMT-12 dark grey. But the most authentic paints for Soviet WWII models are produced by Russian firm named AKAN. I attach here some their colours. The original text was Russian, I made English text in Photoshop. But these colours are without scale lightening effect - they are just like those on real aircrafts. To make the model real-looking, you need to make colours a little lighter (but not so light as Pilawskii offers <_< ).

You can see that AMT-1 "light brown" paint is actually not very brown - rather brownish grey. But there are a lot of strange things like this - remember German RLM-02, greenish in colour, but named "grey"... Or English "Sky" colour... And AMT-1 is another sample.

Kitbasher, what kind of aircraft will be your Sag-2? What size, purpose, how many engines, etc? Which real aircraft will it resemble most of all? With this info, I can get you the most plausible scheme.
Best regards,
Soviet Aviation enthusiast
