Just seen that Pit-Road are to release a 1/700 Hyuga.  Looks like it comes with Merlins, Seahawks and MH-53s.  Temptation to whiff it with a ski-jump and JSFs is strong

Yes, the urge to add a ski-jump is considerable, and to station AV-8J and FV-8J Harriers onboard.

Don't know if you've ever seen one up close, but it is a surprisingly big chopper.

"Darth" has provided a look in the box of the Pit-Road 1/144 SAAB J-35 Drakens over on ARC. LINK!

Two models per box. At the top right is the CafeReo "Aera88" "toy" for size comparison.

Looks rather nice, doesn't it?

Nice shots of the box art, sprues etc.

Aosima also have one due for July which is slightly cheaper and pics from the Shizuoka Hobby Show show it with a full hanger deck unlike the recessed lifts on pitroad version

That's cool, thanks for the head's up, Geoff!

I know I can force myself to wait for Aoshima, as long as they have waterline hulls.

In other Pit Road news, they're releasing (re-releasing?  I seem to remember some CG stuff from a while back) a couple of Japanese Coast Guard ships.

There's a Bofors 375mm 4-barrel ASW rocket launcher in there too, and a variety of 3" guns. All useful for non-Japanese builds.

This has a few more details

The instructions show a VDS variable Depth Sonar array which should prove rather handy.

BTW the 4 barrel Bofors ASW mortar is included on the earlier US/JMSDF weapon sprues too.
