In previous Secret Santa's, everybody knew who was sending what, so I guess it doesn't matter too much.  I've PM'd my recipient to let them know I've posted it & to expect it soon, otherwise how do they know if it's the postie that's lost it, or if someone is just a bit slow to get to the Post Office?  If things don't go according to plan, everything would have to go through PW, so it makes it a little easier to go straight to who's sending you the kit.  Also, it has the return address & I do use my first name on the forum!

A couple of points about this, if I may:

1. If the recipient has a steady stream of parcels arriving by mail and the Secret Santa one isn't marked on the outside as such, he may well open it inadvertently, indeed, he has no choice but to open all unmarked parcels if he buys from ebay, because the condition needs to be checked and feedback given ASAP.

2. If the recipient doesn't at least confirm that he's received his kit/kits in good order, then the sender has no way of knowing if the parcel has been lost or damaged in transit until Christmas Day, after which, I suspect, the postal complaints services in all countries are swamped for a period of day if not weeks. I don't know how it works elsewhere, but in Britain, only the sender of a parcel can persue a claim for its loss or damage.


For these reasons, I propose that Commandment 3. should be changed thus:


Commandment 3. Thou shalt not start thy Secret Santa Gift until Christmas Day.

This makes sense since this is effectively a Group Build with Christmas Day as the start point. If the reciever knows the sender, they can send them a PM or if they don't, they can post on here that they've received it okay. To maintain a sense of occasion and prevent influencing those who havn't yet selected/sent their gifts yet, I propose a further commandment:

Commandment 12. Thou mayest acknowledge safe receipt of thy gift on this thread, but thou must not announce what gift thou hast recieved until Christmas Day.

Please let me have your thoughts.

I must admitt i would like to know something was on it's way as i get regular parcels, i would also like to tell my guy its on the way etc

All makes sense, however I have gotten around it all in another way: I gift wrapped the actual kit, then packaged it for postage.
