I would predict that this is going to be one of Andys' best....... and if he's going to be taking it to Huddie in February, it should have a table to itself !

I ask beause all your other builds have been, well....HUGE!!!!!!!!!! :o :o
Or has the storage space in that Zeplin hanger you have finally filled up?
Cheers,

Right, more work done on the undercarriage. The kit part s are actually very good but lacking in some detail, mainly the hydraulic lines, fuse boxes and bracing struts. These are easily added with lead wire, card and plastic rod usoing reference pics for guidance.
The main gear legs are very basic also and need to be busied up with wire and scissor links. The main gear legs ave been cut and re angled to what i think to be a more realistic angle to allow the model to sit more realistically.I know there has been a lot said about this, mainly along the lines that measurements were taken of the Cosford airframe and the fact that it had no engines, fuel or equipment fitted and therefor wasn't accurate, but to my jaded eyes the adjustment gives a much more realistic sit to the model without the 'splayed out' look that a lot of finished models tend to have.
Anyway after surgery I fitted brass axles to hang the bogie from which gives the gear a lot of much needed rigidity.

The gear legs after surgery but before  rubbing down the trenches and fitting hydraulic brake lines and scissor links, ( just noticed one of the brass axles is bent...will replace!).

Gear bay fitted out with lines, fuse boxes and struts.

After priming.....who needs expensive resin sets??

Next up will be the main legs...in the background I'm working on the intakes and upper fuselage plate..

Cheers for now,

A bit more work done involving the bomb bay.The bay doors will be closed on this model as I intend to fit the excellent Model Alliance 1250 gal under belly tank, which runs the whole length of the doors and a bit besides.
The doors therefore need to be closed and fixed well into position to as the tank will be partly affixed to the doors.....Firstly I fitted the left door and butted it up tightly to the hinge line for a perfect fit then adding the right door, again butting up to thefuselage hinge line. This left a thin gap running the length of the doors as they are a tad undersize. No problem, I just added a length of 4 mm square Plastirod , dropping it into the bay from the inside. This also added much needed lateral strength ready for the large tank, which will be fitted later...

Just waiting for a further set of plans before the major work begins on the intakes and fuselage section...  :banghead:

Mannnn i remember that kit when i was a kid ! It was one of those huge boxes on the top shelf of my LMS that made small lads stand and stare  ;D (including me)

On another note: what primer are you using on that undercarriage bay general ?

Absolutely stupendous work there Andy
And I can't wait to see what you do with the SR-75, one of my favourite kits and I have one in my stash that will be part of my SHADO airforce.
All I can say is Andy that you are a man of excellent skills and taste in models

This is a Gap filler...... :banghead:

Nice work with the TSR2  although you do know only the doors nearest the legs remain open on the TSR2, the main doors close so most of the detailed wheelbay remains hidden.

Ahhhh the 'Aurora', so much Whiffing potential in such a big box. I'm with our friend Chris on this one, needs a thread all of its' own and some serious Gerry Andersonising !

Hi gang, thanks for all the comments ....Chris, yep I remember this coming out years back but never seeming to get round to buying one!...then when I got into all this 'Dark' stuff you couldn't get one for love nor money :banghead:
Well thanks to Chris (Falcon) I finally acquired one at SMW..well spotted mate, so work can commence on that little beauty...seperate thread coming soon,

The primer is Alclads grey Chris...( it actually looks a little thick on in the pics but it's really very light in reality, think the flash has given this effect).
The finished thing will first get a pre shade of NATO black, followed by light admiralty grey finished off with Promodellers light wash , the whole lot being dry brushed using Windsor and Newton oils and pastel chalks to add depth.

Thanks Chris....SHADO force eh....hmmmm....nice. This one will be USAF, the SR-75 being NMF and extra dark grey similar to my YF-12A and the Aurora various shades of grey. I'm going to mod the Aurora quite heavily to look more like published pics of the aircraft, ie lose the silly top mounted engines and mod the underside to detail the pulse detonation powerplants..also a new heavier duty undercarriage which will be removable so that the model can be displayed wheels 'down away' from the mothership.

Geoff...cheers, yep I know I've already closed up the doors and filled  ..going to cheat a bit here and use the bay from one of my other kits for this model, just detailing thre relevant section! The one here will end up in the next model which will have everything open and hanging out ala servicing mode

Agree with you Ian...but I'm sticking to a USAF/NRO rumour mongering scheme  ;D

Andy
