This may sound crazy but on the subject of the "aviation workshop" where do you go for their stuff ? the only link i can find just lists them you cant order from there...

On another note i only just bought some stuff from cammett... I was very impressed how quickly it came.. :D

General Melchet

Chris, try here if you haven't already!

You have to either email them or do what I did and ring them and order....

Forgot to mention, the Fwd Fuselage certainly looks the part now andy, the only trouble is that it sounds like the Intakes are going to be just as difficult to modifiy as they need to bulk out to replace the width lost in correcting the fuselage.

Top notch work on the fwd fuselage Andy.

And I don't know why, but when I see a lovely pile of resin aftermarket like that waiting to be used, I go all warm and tingly!

Thanks fellas, Geoff, yep that is the issue. As I suspected the Airfix intakes appear to be undersize , this would account for the strange tapering bulge, almost as if Airfix realised that they'd got it wrong and the only way out was to move the fuselage out to the intakes to fill the shortfall!!
I now have the Dynavector plans and they definitely show a discrepancy between the intake sizes, just waiting to re scan and print in 1/48th to confirm, then I'll set about scratching some new ones, (plus shock cones) and then attaching these to the new forward fuselage as a complete unit. Gently does it!!

There was something on tv the other day where this phrase was used and the "older guy" said "whats this about a massive pussy in Clapham ?"  ;D

Agree with Nev on both points

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Cheers folks, it turns out i WAS being crazy... i had the right link but never even thought to ring them... spoilt by online traders and sent me stupid...  :banghead:  ;D

General Melchet

Hi gang, just a bit of progress made over the last few days.
iI finally got the drawings through and set about measuring everything up against the kit parts....one thing became ovbvious straight away, namely that the Airfix intakes appear to be undersize which I think accounts for the starnge taper we see on the forward fuselage!

The drawings sent were made by a draughtsman friend who produced them for Dynavector for their wonderful vac kit , using some drawings he had from acquired from Warton way back.

Anyway on with the pics,

The upshot of all this seems to be that Airfix got it right on most of the kit but for some reason made the intakes too small...the result was a shortfall on the forward fuselage sides that would have left a nasty gap between the intake shroud and the fuselage side............the option??...to bulge the walls out from the intakes towards the nose, resulting in the totally inaccurate plan view we have on the kit., same goes for the large 'hump' on the wing top, it should be a lot smoother and less defined, not a problem , just a new blade, wet and dry and rescriber!!...just my thoughts after comparing everything, but why it happened after the 1/72nd scale kit was so right is anyone's guess!!

The piccies,

Firstly a rather large parcel arrived yesterday courtesy of RM and the dream factory at English Electric/British Aircraft Corporation, Warton..........

The details on each sheet....

This proves beyond all doubt that the fuselage should indeed be flat sided in the area just before the intakes and not bulged out as in the kit...

Chris's work for Dynavector which he is in the process of finishing off ready for retail to those interested........

This one shows the undersized kit part against the drawing of the intake section, this should have been moved up a bit to match the position of the shock cone as in the next photograph....my mistake.. Unfortunately I went and bought 2 sets of resin replacement intakes , then realised that they would need a lot of work to enlarge .............oh well hacksaw at the ready!!!  :banghead:

And this one shows the shortfall at the bottom of the intake and the undersize shock cone..............

Here you see that generally Airfix got it right as the kits profile fits pretty well...

This shows the intake in plan view to be too wide, some distortion will occur obviously as the kit part stands away from the drawing but you get the idea.... ..excuse the crude cut of the plastic , trial and error before all being tidied up!

Finally some work has progressed on the undercarriage.....about time I hear someone shout!!!

This morning I managed to finish the main gear legs and nose gear with oil and white spirit washes and highlights..........ought to open a hair salon!! :hmmm:

Lots more wiring to come when the wheel carriers are fitted....hydraulic lines everywhere..

Off to hack some plastic to bits now.............  ;D

Cheers all,

Andy

Cheers Neil, just bits if Evergreen rod and card, shaped to fit...

A lot more wires and bits to add yet, ( the wheel bogies are only vaguely like the real thing and need a fair bit of work )

Andy..
