Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

I've seen the second one before - brilliant isn't it!  A real inspiration to modelling.

Yes indeed, been following this Betty build for awhile now. Like the foil work in the battle damages.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

This one is pretty fun.

More of it here under Pirate Island.

He has a bunch more nice ones on the site.

Nothing quite like detailed palms. The pirate display is great too.

Chuck Doan's dioramas:

Not whiffs, but mostly run-down gas stations and workshops in 1/48th with some awesome detail and weathering work. Sometimes it's hard to tell what's a model shot and what's a reference photo! There's also an interesting sequence about a 1925 gas pump which he made using 3d printing techniques.

Just a sample:

As someone who's spent a fair bit of time in real places like this, I can say that this is ABSOLUTELY realistic: I've yet to spot a single thing that jumps out at me that spoils the illusion.

(Don't know if the pics are blocked or if it's just the work system: follow the link anyway - it's worth it)

Seeing projects like this releases big emotions.

AWE - at the results, which speak for themselves. And for the builder as well.

PRIDE - at belonging to a fraternity capable of such art.

Introspection - that maybe it would be easier to have built a 1:1 functioning motorcycle shop, and quicker too!  :banghead:

Depressing -  Especially as you realize that in your own noggin right now are 1500 diorama ideas even more massive in scope, despite the fact that you have not the lifespan or budget or storage space for more than maybe a handful or less. Let you in on a little secret...seeing things like this or the 1:72 escort carrier model or the dio of Cherbourg harbour 1944 is a part of what convinced your resident dragon to go from making physical models to pushing pixels, while admiring works like these just the same.

In the workplace, there is a term called "hitting the glass ceiling" referring to reaching the limits of the position as in salary or advancement or personal achievement. I might say that there is a "styrene ceiling" as well.

Sorry that you caught me on a overly mindful day! But its raining buckets outside and has been off/on for 3 days now. Probably just a regular Thursday for you folks in the UK as weather goes, but this is Aridzona. Yesterday on a run to the store, passed a nearby relic airfield and the transports and Neptunes hulks there are up to the wheelwells in water, as well as half the roadways and the supermarket lot ! All with an incredible rainbow at noon and lightning hitting that airfield on the way back. Really need to get my arse in gear and carry a camera with me.
