The PR19?  A high flyer - 'Precursor to the Blackbird' was, I recall, the title of an article that appeared many years ago in Air International, can't recall whether it covered all PR Spits or just the 19.
SR-71s and U-2s/TR-1s were/are high flyers and painted black.  But a sexy beast suxh as the PR19 needs to be in overall gloss black, like the night intruder B-57s.
USAF markings akin to the black B-57s (or indeed the B-26 Invader) wouldn't go amiss.  A late 50's USAF recce bird in Korea and Japan?  Why not.  But remember, it's a Spitfire - so treat it with respect.  Or else!

If you go with black, how about a low-vis Israeli - navy blue star of david on dark grey disc/roundel?

USAF I'd say.  Maybe Israeli - I recall seeing profiles of a real-world Israeli Mk IX that could serve as a basic template?  ;D ;D

Supermarine Type 327 'twin Spitfire' mock up.  The lower pic is in BSP Fighters & Bombers, but in mirror image.

Unicraft do a kit of it, Narses built one:

Flitzer did some profiles too:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Logan Hartke

Yeah, I knew what it was, I just hadn't seen that photo of the mockup before that I remembered and was surprised I didn't see it in this thread.

Cheers,

Logan

Radish

Looks very good, Logan.

Meanwhile..... PR XIX/19 options could be:

Israel....Black (like the IXE in Real World) or camouflaged
Dutch....Silver
Belgian....Black or Deep Blue, or Pink
RAF....black, or Pink, or SE Asia colours, or low-viz grey with low-viz markings
Irish....Green, Pink or Silver (in Korea)
Spanish....Silver or Deep Blue...or tactical camouflage (like their RF-5As)
South Vietnam...Sea Blue Gloss and very worn/dirty...

There's so many to choose from and it's a lovely kit.

an overall black PR.19 would look sweet in Swedish or Finnish markings for 'border incursions' looking for 'ghost rocket' sites in the late 40's, the former did carry out such missions, one famous example being a 'tweaked' PR.19 with uprated engine and blacked out nationality roundels altho the other markings were stil in place.

That's interesting.
A Finnish one would be nice in postwar markings.

And I'm thinking of a couple of Soviet VBs...one all white, one silver, both Winter Camouflages.

And funnily enough, I did a scenario where a Scottish Union AF (SUAF) Spitfire 24 unit operated in Korea. They could have a flight of PR.19s too. Same cano of pale grey with twin greens added to the upper surfaces (which becomes grren, dark green, pale grey.
Green/white striped and prop for a "Celtic" Squadron.

Spitfires in space! I saw these on x-planes.  It's concept art from the Doctor Who episode, "Victory of the Daleks":

I haven't watched DW in a while, either or Syfy or BBC America, so this stuff comes as a surprise.  I've no idea if it looked anything like that on TV.  I thought the concept worthy of Radish.

A quick-and-dirty modification of a Spitfire V to match Supermarine 305 features- pilot's compartment moved forward and rear fuselage lengthened slightly.
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!

I read over the weekend that when the swiss were looking at the Bf-109D/E they were also considering the Spitfire Mk I.  Might be interestiung to see a Spit in these markings:
