Here's a good one:



This is from a jar of curry sauce. I can't remember the brand, but it should be easy to spot in the supermarket because it has this plastic pot clipped to the top of the jar lid proper. The pot hold a quantity of dry spice mix which you stir fry the meat in for a few minutes before adding the sauce. I'm thinking this could be a good 1/72nd Gerry Anderson control room, with the wider bit painted opaque and the narrower bit as the 360 deg windows. Although it looks like there's a moulding pip in the middle of it, this is, in fact, completely smooth on the outside, so it should polish out. Only trouble is, it still smells of curry! 

(Mind you, it was good curry.... )

Platerboard fixings of this general ilk are good, because they have a particulary big thread, more like a real ship's screw:



There are plastic/nylon equivalents too.

Rare visit to Tesco brought a bumper crop today:

1. The Party Football Bumper Pack. EIGHT of each of the items shown for £4. The black disc is the whistle, the spinner/fan is nicely moulded (no section to the blades, but hey...) and the clacker balls are reasonably true spheres. You can also get the same pack in a Cars (the animated movie) theme in different colours.







2. Helix are jumping on Mapad's designer-desk-gizmos bandwagon. This Disc Eraser has a deeply cool 3-piece telescoping plastic cover with "batman's Mudguards" written all over it. It's symetrical about it's rotational plane too, unlike some of the Mapad stuff. These are £1.15 each or two for £2.





3. THis is the almost equally funky Disc Sharpener, complete with opening cockpit canopy. Unlike the Eraser, these are available in a variety of colours with differently tinted clear bits (no clear ones as far as I could see though. Again, it's symetrical. These are £1.15 each or two for £2.

Had another found object pig-out at the local cheapo shop (cheap thrills....) the other day:


1. Triangular highlighter. Can't remember the price but everything was peanuts. Obvious UFO/space applications, or maybe an alternative AWACS "saucer"?:






2. Novelty mushroom pencil sharpeners. Nice collection of shapes when broken down. There were also piggy-shaped ones but I (unlike, no doubt, others) couldn't see a use for them:






3. Papermate double highlighters. Got four of these: you can break them down and re-arrange them into a number of good engine pod/gun pod shapes ideal for space fighters:








4. Pack of ten cable identifers for £1.09. Good little dome/turret shapes:

Having followed PW's wargames scenery thread with interest and followed a number of links, it strikes me that this could make an ideal section of industrial zone. Pity then, that I don't actually do wargames, but I might make it up anyway at some point.

Eggciting news: for Easter, Hobbycraft are doing "fillable eggs", which are hollow plastic egg shapes, approximately 70mm x 50mm, in various garish colours. The intention is that you decorate them fill them with sweets and give them to kids but to hell with the kids, the modelling possibilities are obvious, particularly since tne bottom half is a pretty good dome.

Best bit? Packet of 12 = £2.00.........

By an amazing coincidence, they're doing these again (probably slightly dearer) at the moment - spooky huh?

Gotta love Tescos.... All this stuff is a quid or so each.

Firstly and possibly bestly, I SWEAR somebody at Maped is a whiffer:



Unlike some of their previous thangs it IS symetrical, and at least one translucent piece is smoke rather than coloured. The other one comes in a variety of shades. It breaks down like this:




Next up, you may remember the Helix "Batman's mudguards" eraser? Well they now have a similar pencil sharpener which is simpler, but probably more useful for it. The "canopy" hinges nicely too:




Not to be outdone, Tesco's own brand have come up with this eraser/sharpener combo. Probably not as funky as the other two, but still useful:






And lastly, cheapo mini highlighters. Nothing clever, but they are good "photon torpedo" shapes:




If you can't make a space fighter out of that lot, then you're on the wrong website.....
