Okay, balls to you lot.... ;D

These mirrorball keyrings are in my favorite hunting ground: Tesco's kiddies party favours section. They're four for a quid, which seems pretty decent.

They're made of plastic, they split handily into two halves, and are 32mm in diameter. You could make all sorts of sci-fi stuff from them: anything from a 1/35th scale sensor dome to a 1/144th scale building. Hell, you could even have a 1/24th scale disco..... ;D

Interesting, but as soon as I saw them I thought of a great use for them. Earrings for Rad.....

A little greeble here, a piece of sprue there and instant escape pods for a big ship. Or maybe remote sensor pods.

Found these pencil sharpeners a while back but never got around to posting them, so I'm afraid I can't remember what they cost or where I got them. However, they're Mapad so probably about a quid each and probably anywhere that does stationery:

Worry about glueing them later... ;D Actually, most of them look and feel like they'd take polystyrene cement or CA, perhaps with a little surface sanding to give the latter a "key". I try to stay away from rubbery or glossy (toy soldier) style plastics. Don't forget, you can always drill them and screw them together... ;D

To be honest, the way my life has gone the last few years, I havn't had much chance to actually use any of this stuff.... :banghead:

Oh i know how that feels ,,collected a heap of after market bits and now the pile is huge ..i counted my pile of alloy gun barrels ..knew i had a few but i didnt know i had 47 of the bloody things
Now since this threat is about finding things ..i have been seriously hurt over the years in the military and i take tablets every day for head aches and blood issues but i did find something very very useful ..the metal that the tablets are packed in is amazing for making small metal pieces ..bends very easily and holds its shape and much stronger then tin foil  ;D

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Nice one - the foil that Swann Morton knife blades come is relatively heavy-gauge stuff too.

nice thread!
using unexpected objects or bits of them from the contingent world in what-if models ...
I do that sometimes, for examples wings from bird figurines (a bit like the bat wings shown above), or even worse.
I'll try to document that here soon.

Harold (or anyone else with a need), are these any use?

We use these as at work, they're normally disposed of after use (they're a breath filter), but we had seven that went unused after being taken out of their packaging and they can't be used again.  They're about 90mm in diameter in clear inidgo-blueish plastic.  They have a white fabric filter in the middle but this can easily be removed.  They're open at both ends, one end is larger so they can be stacked together.

I've had them on my desk for some months thinking they might be useful for some sci-fi application.  Maybe some kind of laser coil or warp core if you put a flourescent tube down the middle of several stacked together, a Tardis style console with a tube inserted in the top of one, big wheels, or anything else you can think of.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Well they certainly have LOADS of potential:

I can't honestly say that I'd use them (or anything else) in the immediately forseeable future though, so I'd suggest giving first option on them to somebody with an actual plan...

It's the same object that Mossie was talking about and he made that observation too.
