M551 Sheridan

So the Australian Army were considering buying a tank which after firing it's gun snorted embers out of the end of the barrel?
Just the thing for a bushfire prone land...

When the Army tested it, the Sheridan was still pretty much  a prototype vehicle and didn't have the compressed air system in the breech/bore.   Anyway, it was for "over there" in the days of "Forward Defence" when we were fighting in other peoples' countries, mate. 

I have a copy of "The Division" training Pamphlet issued in 1965 which featured the Sheridan as "standard equipment" for the Divisional cavalry recce unit.   Had some interesting pictures.

It looks so much more useful and purposeful. To think the US Army contended with the 152mm gun/launcher system for so many decades without confidence and dare I say hesitantly.....
