Gotta love that PR Blue Spit! Although dodn't know it was a contra - didn't know the RAF ever recived contra Spit's!

It's a bit of an oddity I think, IIRC it was re-engined with a Shackleton engine.  The clipped wings seem a bit strange too (the PR.XIX is a high-altitude PR bird right).

Looking on google, reveals that the aircraft has been restored to it's original condition with a five blade prop.

But to answer your query, the RAF received a bunch of Mk.22's with contra-props (278 according to one website).

I tripped over one of these entirely by accident, then a quick Google search turned up some others.  2011 marks the first centennial of US Naval Aviation, and various commands are painting different aircraft in retro schemes to celebrate.  First is a pair of T-45s.  Next is an HH-60 of HSC-84 Red Wolves painted up to honor the UH-1s of HAL-3, the Seawolves.  The markings on the aux fuel tank denote all the Seawolves aviators who died in Vietnam.  After that is a kinda ho-hum TH-57.  Last and incomplete, an S-3 of VX-30 is getting a WWII Avenger scheme.

Those yellow winged Goshawks really look the business!

And the S-3 will surely be superb too, I've always liked that two-blues-and-white scheme. [So much so I painted my lounge in that scheme back in the 60s! My wife at the time was NOT impressed!  ;)]

I wonder where they got the paint for it though? Do the USN have an account at Squadron for Tamiya acrylics? I can't see the crates and crates of bottles in the piccie anywhere.........  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It's good to see the USN pulling out all the stops.  The Tucano's for the Battle of Britain anniversary looked good but I felt the RAF could have painted up a few other types as well, spending cuts or no.

Looking forward to seeing that Avenger scheme done!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

There are several more pics of the USN Centennial schemes over on ARC (CLICKY!), including some very neat pics of the Goshawks in flight. Just beautiful!

Teaser:

This Seahawk also looks fantastic. I could swear someone (maybe Mav ?) already did a profile in that direction.

I never thought I could say that about an aircraft before, but I think I'm in love with the yellow and blue retro-style T-45!!

Nice work if you can get it, although the operator isn't forced to be there!  Anyone know what the range of the datalink is on these things, just how far can the operator be away?

^ I've read that some of Predators flown over Afghanistan were piloted from somewhere in Nevada.  :o Nellis or Indian Springs or something like that.
