All hail the God of Frustration!!!

Cliffy B

Hey guys, I was rooting through some of my old photo folders and I came upon these shots.  My father took them while he was at Pearl Harbor on business a few years back.  The date was December 7, 2007.  I took some of my own earlier this year but none came out as spectacular as these.

Sunset over Ford Island.

Enjoy.

Nice bit of sky, Cliffy!

Found this guy's photostream on Flickr today: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ripcordjerry/

Some really nice classic aircraft here, old cars and trucks, hotrods and bikes etc, and some great photos of skydiving in the 60s. Among them was this rather interesting (to me, at least) shot of a Grumman Goose converted to turboprop power:

Some other lovely ones as well, including Beech 18s, Daks, and others.

Photoshopped Whif!

1st element of proof; the red 'roos (the one in the roundel & the other on the tail) are both facing the wrong way.
2nd element of proof, the Skippy on the tail fin is too big for the fin, even the Army would spend a few cents getting a stencil cut to the correct size.
3rd element of proof; all European plants in the background, real trials would have been conducted in Aus under Aussie conditions with at least a few Aussie plants in the scene (this is a limited element of proof, because it could be just prior to the Gazelle being shipped to Aus for testing).

Not a proof but I'm pretty sure we've never actually looked at the Gazelle, beyond "on paper", as a military helo.

Secret Squirrel Edit below (just highlight to read) in case this is a trick post;
Edit: having now read the link below the photo ( :banghead: ) it appears it is a real image take in the mid-80's in the UK during some helo comp when Aussies on exchange didn't have a helo of their own to compete in. (I hope it wasn't the Aussies who attached the roundels.) Apparently they eventually competed in a Kiwi UH-1H..... How kind of our trans-Tasman brothers! ;D

Never heard of the Gazelle being looked at.  Considering Army Av. would have, in the time frame only just purchase the Kiowa, I don't think they'd have been looking at the Gazelle.

All good points, Wombie!   I spotted the rearward looking 'roo immediately.  It was a dead give away.

The story on the weblink sound plausable.  I'll bounce around Oakey tomorrow and try and get some facts.

Do you have that AC-130 in any higher resolution?  That has to be the most interesting angle I've ever seen of that particular aircraft.
I have one that's 218Kb in size. I use it as one of my wallpapers on my computer.

If I remember right it was on loan to the Austalian team that was taking part in a flying comp at Middle Wallop in the 80's.

Gorgeous!  Damn shame the Navy retired the battleships. :banghead:  After all, nothing says "Settle down" like 9 16" rifles steaming along the 3 mile limit.

Why'd the AF have to get rid of such simply elegant fighters?  Ok...besides the fact that they were 30 years old when they were retired, didn't have a gun, and had inefficient turbojets- all simple things that could have been overcome if the line had remained open.
