The gray and white USN birds are F2H Banshees and the seaplane is a Convair R3Y Tradewind.  It was initial conceived as a cargo seaplane, able to go extreme distances and IIRC beach itself like an LST and open its nose to unload.

Fighters = McDonnell F2H Banshee
Tanker = Convair R3Y Tradewind

Cheers for that Cliff,
I like Flying boats, and I have a Marlin in the stash, the Tradewind will be quite a bit bigger I dare say.I am not too clued up on early USN jets so I didn't recognise the Banshee's.

Not quite so. It was initially ordered as a patrol boat under the designation P5Y (Consolidated-Vultee Model 117) but ended up as the R3Y transport (Convair Model 3).

The Tradewind was an odd bird.  It was an early turboprop, fitted with the troublesome XT40 engine.  After trials as a patrol bird, the rest were built as "flying LSTs" but they couldn't keep their noses down when beaching, so that didn't work.  They served as tankers until 1958, when the Navy scrapped the XT40 program altogether, and all the aircraft it powered.

A friend of a friend posted this one on Facebook.

That's an odd picture. FOUR drogues, including two from a single reel?

Gray-over-white + Banshee = sexy! :wub:

I second that!

Wish the manufactures would get around to doing some Golden Jet Age USN subjects.  Fury, Banshee, Cougar, Tiger, Phantom I............has there ever been a kit of the Banshee in 1/72?

Maverick

The Academy model (I bought it as a new release) offered both overall Blue & Gull Grey over White schemes as well as befits a later mark of the type.
