Why are the Hueys missing their main rotor blades?

Captain Canada

I'm guessing we brought them up in a CC-117 and they haven't been installed as yet.

That first one is the SC9, the very modified Canberra PR9 used by Ferranti for missile seeker head tests. I can't imagine what that would have been doing flying near Russian airspace.

And those Phantom drivers couldn't have got MUCH closer! My old Boss used to be a back-seater in them, he never mentioned anything like that!

The SC.9 could have bumped into a Bear over the North Sea somewhere?

There are plenty of stories of Russian fighters getting very close to Neptunes, Orions etc, so it makes sense that the reverse would occur too!

Most missile testing was done from Aberporth or Llanbedr, on the west coast, which was the SC9's usual bailiwick.

I see what you mean. I wonder if this was one of the occasions where a Phantom crew showed the Russians some "interesting reading material" (ie Playboy centrefolds)? You'd need to get that close. ;D

I found this picture rather evocative:

Not one but two Nimrods! Must have been flying from Northern Ireland ("To be sure, to be sure!") ;D

Obviously no 'security implications' in showing F-16 exhausts then........

A few old shots from Edinburgh . Thought they might be of interest. We used to have one of the best viewing areas in the UK. Of course, the BAA just HAD to close it down...........! In case you are wondering, the Balkan Holidays TU-154 WAS landing in thick fog!! Not my poor photography!! Lol! <_< That particular shot (believe it or not) was a JUNE morning!!. Camera was my trusty old Canon AE-1 - that's 35mm film for those of you old enough to remember such things!! <_<

Thanks Captain!
Plenty more where these came from! <_<
Just as a bit of useless information, the Trans Brasil 767 had just completed the longest direct non stop flight to Edinburgh (at the time) - 5900 miles from Sao Paulo
