"FunTack"---Residue???

Taking a cue from some modelers here, I had used "FunTack", a putty-like substance used to temporarily hang up paper artwork on walls, etc., to make interesting masks for model painting. I am now contemplating using it as a spraying mask for canopies, but am suspicious that it might leave a residue that would affect clarity (wasn't important on wings, fuselages, etc.).

So my question to you all is:

Anyone have experience with the stuff (many names for essentially the same thing) on canopies, and *IF* it left a residue, what did you get it off with?

Assuming it's similar to the Blu-Tack sold in the UK, then yes, I have used it on canopies and no, it doesn't leave a problematic residue. Any residue it does leave can be dabbed off by using another piece of the stuff, or at most, a tissue soaked in brush cleaner. I have had problems with it sticking in sharp, deep corners like jetpipes and intake though, so bear that in mind with any oddly-shaped canopies.

You have given me a nervous inspiration to try it (gotta stretch the modeling muscles a bit by trying something never attempted before). I may very well try it on some expendable canopies first, to get the hang of it, but I think it has exciting possibilities, especially in the case of my Decimator that has complex canopy requirements.

I use the stuff (blu-tak or whatever it's called here. It's blue, at least) a fair amount. Styrene glue will affect it as well as some solvents. What doesn't come off with more of the same putty (like Weaver mentioned) can be picked out with a sharpened toothpick or sprue (I use a sprue that I've cut/sanded down to a sharp point on one end and a sharp chisel end on the other) without affecting the surrounding paint.
Since all of my canopies get a coat of Future, solvents are out of the question.

Yes I'd strongly advise trying it on a scrap canopy first, and make sure you give the canopy all the treatments (Klear/Future or whatever) that you would do with a good one. For all we know, there might be a difference in chemistry between Blu-Tack and Fun-Tack.....
