Brilliant as always from Trumpy, but what's up with the AGM-45 on the F-8????

Regards,

Mav

That is odd.  According to the Squadron/Signal F-8 book, Crusaders from the E-model onwards were wired for Bullpup, but there's no mention of them carrying other AGMs.

Over on Cybermodeller, they have some pics of new kits upcoming from Trumpy, including a Lightning F.2/6 & a Wellington GR.XIV (one of my faves from Matchbox).

I'm really looking forward to the Lightning, but at $37 it better be one damn nice 1/72 scale kit!
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Whilst whatever the price is is obviously a bit steep, with the only other choices being Hasegawa...(ewww, I know, I'm building one now) or Matchbox (which seemed OK back in the 70s, but most likely is horrid now), I have to think it's a good thing for those who want the aircraft.  Added to that, the chances of getting it cheaper, direct from OS suppliers and I think we'll end up with a few extraneous Lightnings hitting evilBay in the future.

As a matter of interest, what are the pros and cons of the Hase kit? I have an interest in Lightnings due to my F.12 profile. I think I remember the character of the Airfix and Matchbox ones, but I never had a Hase one.

Weaver,

The Hase Lightning shows all the hallmarks of an early Hase kit (ie: raised panel lines, simplistic cockpit, blank wheel & speedbrake wells, etc).  I've read the odd article that actually suggests it's an even earlier kit (Frog?) so that tends to put it behind the 8-ball in my opinion.  Certainly not even remotely one of the better earlier Hase kits and given I'm also wading through their "D" model Hornet (read warmed over "TF-18A" or "B") that's gotta be saying something.  Unfortunately, it's another that Hasegawa doesn't mind flogging off with new decals as a 'new release'.

Cheers Mav. Funnily enough, that analysis actually makes me slightly MORE likely to buy one, since I wouldn't be hacking something beutiful about something. One of the few things I have left over from my previous period of modelling is a spoilt Hase Mi-24D/E, and I feel guilty every time I look at it......

Having said that, I'm tending towards Airfix F.3s for hacking about, since the shorter belly pack makes the fuselage hacks easier.

For myself, I don't really care if the kit is the paragon of the type.  If it's the better (by better, I don't necessarily mean best engineered but a multiude of factors, options, price, availability, etc) kit for what I want, whif or not, it's the one I'll go for.

I've become a little more fussy however, as these two Hasegawa kits have really given me a sense of WTF, especially considering I've also got their AV-8B which is in contrast brilliant.

It's not just the Lightning....they're all pricey ! The GR Whimpy looks wicked, and that big Russian cruiser as well.

Another thing with the F-8, I've been told when the wing is up, everything else is down ---  leading edge/trailing edge flaps and wing fold.  They were never parked with the wing up except for maintenance, too much chance of FOD getting inbetween the wing and fuselage.

Its just a publicity shot - the idea is to show you the options that come in the kit.

£18???  :o

Maybe not the best pricing when its up against 2 other new tool Lightnings......

Just a thought from me on the Lightning. I have enought of the Hass, Airfix and Matchbox kits from various sources. But to make any of them decient, I need to purchase loads of resin or brass or spend countless hours (too lazy) scratchbuilding.

If the diff between the the Trump Lightning and the rest is the same as the diff between the Hass Thud and the Trump Thud, it's well worth the cost. I'd be spending 30 or 40 bucks on aftermarket to make the Hass Thud close to worthwhile when I compaire.

Still though, I don't much like the price, but we've become spoiled.

Well, as MPM (last I heard anyway) has a 1/72 Lightning F.3 in the pipe somewhere so if I really feel the need to have a Lightning, I think I'll hold out for that one.
