Here is something I have been dragging my heels with trying to get it done as I have had very little enthusiasm of late, mainly due to me having the flu and receiving some pretty crap news just before Christmas.
Anyhow,
Here is what you get if you cross a skyraider with a Gannet.
The kits involved are an old airfix skyraider that Sequoiaranger sent to me, and a very poor kit of a Fairy Gannet that cost me 3 quid from Telford.
The gannet wings tail wings propellers and nose section were used, along with the front landing gear. The skyraiders nose was also modified in shape, and the front wheel well built into it. The Gannet wings needed the landing gear doors cutting out so I did those as a simple rectangular shape, and made the landing gear doors 2 piece jobbies, The skyraider, has a small compartment behind the cockpit, and the dive brakes are converted into opening doors with windows, as is the brake on the underside of the fuselage which is fitted with an access ladder.
The aircraft is used for many duties which include:
Insertion extraction of covert operatives (4 men can be carried at a push)
Leaflet dropping
Photographic surveillance.
postal logistics
small hardware delivery.
executive/officer in field transport.
The aircraft is also very quiet, and capable of landing and taking off from very rough or unprepared landing strips. It is also very capable at short takeoff and landing, hence the name grasshopper.

Cheers,
Chris.

Wow, that looks great!

Concept's good, the parts blend well, and the battered paint scheme really rings true - well done!

Looks good.  And with no markings, it looks like it's ready for more clandestine missions.  Well done.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

A fumbled curse or a clever concoction? ("Able-Dog" and Gannet)

Glad to see "my" Skyraider put to such good use.

You probably know that there is a famous story of an American Skyraider pilot landing on a rough patch of ground in Vietnam, under fire, to rescue his wingman who had crash-landed. Your Grasshopper takes that to the next level.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Everything looks better with the addition of British Roundels!

Well done Chris, I like that

Clever use of a Harrier nozzle for the exhaust pipe     I'll have to keep that in mind

Looks great.  A dynamic, novel use of the Skyraider's frame.  Love it.

The engine and the camo pattern really make this a fantastic build. The small canopy makes it look like some sort of flying brute.

Redefines the word 'stunning'! Looks like a brute, totally mean and nasty.

Thanks for all the great comments guys, The parts went together really easy, and I wish I had bought a few more of those cheap and cheerful Gannets, as I would definitely like to do one of the 4 seater skyraiders like this also, and maybe an armed version.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?
