I got a bunch of kits today -

Pegasus 1/350 "When Worlds Collide" Space Ark - it looks like a great kit! I'm going to start this one this weekend.
Pegasus "War Of The Worlds" Martian. Cool vinyl kit!
Zvezda 1/35 Russian Special Forces Fire Support Team. The figures look pretty good; the grenade launcher looks very good.
Airfix 1/144 Mig-21D - Looks like a nice little version of an early-ish Mig-21

I also bought a portable compact spray booth. My home made spray booth works OK, but it's big. I'm hoping I can use this one right on my work bench area with a minimum of setup fuss.

Cranberry turned up today - cracking kits these new Airfix jobs! Got a B(I).8 and a PR.9 now, both lovely. Hafta get a Bf110 as well I think, and a SHar or two, and some Spitfires. Etc etc etc....

They call it retail therapy I think. Probably shouldn't buy any more for a little while, but it's so easy! Just won a few more bits on evilbay as well. Whoops! I did finish a model yesterday though - a Hurricane in all silver and 1 Sqn Fury markings from the 30s.

My Aoshima 1/700 JMSDF Hyuga arrived today!  Looks pretty nice, but I reckon it's in dire need of a ski-jump, right?

Already noticed a boo-boo in the instructions. They want you to mount the main undercarriage on the Seahawks the wrong way round, with the oleo on the front, whereas it should be to the rear of the leg.

Airfix 1/48 Hurricane I for my BoB tribute build. Probably build her in 32 Sqd colours as they were at Biggin Hill which is fairly local, but I also like the Advanced Striking Force scheme with the "pointed" spinner. May need another 

Also, finally, a large bottle of Tamiya thinners in Antic's at Worcester (there for cricket), rare as rocking horse poo this stuff and Anics had only just got it in

Popped to Stafford to buy tickets for Saturday's Rocky Horror Picture Show/Picnic at Shugborough, but bought 2 x Airfix 1/72nd Gladiators, ideal for whiffing into WW1 colours, and only 25 times the original price. Sounds a lot but as the kit came out at 2 shillings in the late '50s, and prices have inflated by "N", then it's a bargain.

If you're lucky, it's one of the onesboxed before the canopy started to degrade badly.  Even the first run of that tooling had a flashed rear canopy, although it wasn't too bad.

I built the 1/48th Spitfire and Hurricane marked up as squadrons that flew from Kenley. My brother had a pad there when he was based at Caterham before the MOD sold it off for houses..

Canopy seems to be in better condition than the Revell boxed one (#4166) I did for the one week GB Lee. One of the intake bullets is damaged same as in Revell's #4166 boxing.

Offhand, the main moulding problems tend to be a shot canopy, shrinkage on the wheel hubs (a pity, as they're the nicest 262 mainwheels in injection) and mismoulded Reidel starters on the engine intakes.

Other flaws with the kit are the lack of hinges on the gun magazine covers and the little blisters on the doors are missing too.  The top of the tailfin could do with a little sanding to round it off as it's just a shade too square.

The main problem is the sit, the u/c maingears are too long and unless it's fixed, the tail is too high whereas it should be arse down.  Actually they're not, as they're the same length as the ones in the Hasegawa 262, it's the way they're mounted.  Revell has nicely enclosed wheel bays and a raised spigot to fit the gear leg into whereas Hasegawa have a cutout and the leg buts into the wing top surface.  

Best way to fix it is to tape the wings together, then get a drill just slightly larger than the hole which the legs tab into and then drill right through the wing.  Bear with me!  Then open out the wheel well bays entirely, this has the added benefit of allowing you to see the moulded in detail on the underside of the cockpittub and the fuselage internal side walls.  Assemble the kit as normal and use the holes drilled through the wing to fit the u/c legs.  Fill the remaining hole on the top.  The sit should be better than it was, maybe not as much as it should be but does make a difference. Maybe shortening the legs would be easier but this makes for a stronger join.

Not entirely sure if the Hobbyboss kit is a copy of the Revell kit but I suspect that it is and as such will have the same flaws.

Not sure it is such a good deal Rad. From the Bank of England education pages and their inflation calculator A £1 in 1958 would be worth £17.41 in 2009. Therefore by my calculations 2/- would be worth £3.48 today. Theyv'e done you mate

I was very disapointed with the canopy in one of my boxings

OK, I bow to your research.....but taken on my earnings in 1973 of £100 a month and then my earnings in 1998 of £3000 a month...over 25 years a rather large % increase in net terms, so I reckoned that over the 50 years of the kit I was onto a winner.
More useable decals anyway
And won't one look good with:

German markings (several, actually)....WWI
French Markings (several actually!!)....WWI too
USN markings 1935-ish....yellow wing!
RFC markings.....

And then there's other possibilities.....Persia, Afghanistan, Spanish Civil War.....

REAL finishes will be reserved for the re-release of the Revell/Matchbox kit.

The Airfix Glad does build easily and is suprisingly sturdy.
