My Aoshima 1/700 JMSDF Hyuga arrived today!  Looks pretty nice, but I reckon it's in dire need of a ski-jump, right?

Already noticed a boo-boo in the instructions. They want you to mount the main undercarriage on the Seahawks the wrong way round, with the oleo on the front, whereas it should be to the rear of the leg.

Nice kit however even with the clanger on the Seahawks. I notice capacity is listed as 11 Helicopters, and the size is about the same as small VTOL carrier. If Harriers were still in production then they may have been considered just for Air Defence purposes.

As for a Ski jump, that would probably be better suited to their proposed bigger brothers which are in effect VTOL carriers as they are to have a capacity of about 20 'Helicopter' and are a longer, wider, taller version of the Hyuga & Ise. Hopefully once those enter service then Aoshima or Pitroad will hopefully produce them. Comparing the Hyuga kit i would prefer Aoshima to do the new class as their kit Hyuga matches pitroad for detail and includes a rather decent hanger space, together with a somewhat cheaper and more reasonable price.

Got a lovely 1/48th Italeri Re.2002 off ebay. It's going to become a Hungarian MAVAG Héja IV.

Also got a Hasegawa A-7 Corsair to be done up as a JH-7 alternative and a Tamiya Corsair (F4U) to be turned into a Rumanian IAR-80something.

OK, I bow to your research.....but taken on my earnings in 1973 of £100 a month and then my earnings in 1998 of £3000 a month...over 25 years a rather large % increase in net terms, so I reckoned that over the 50 years of the kit I was onto a winner.

I know what you mean but I swear my £32 a month (gross) back in 1968 bought me a lot more then. Mind you it may have been because I paid me mum my keep on Friday and then "borrowed" it all back again by Tuesday  ;D

German markings (several, actually)....WWI
French Markings (several actually!!)....WWI too
USN markings 1935-ish....yellow wing!
RFC markings.....

And then there's other possibilities.....Persia, Afghanistan, Spanish Civil War.....

REAL finishes will be reserved for the re-release of the Revell/Matchbox kit.

Yes to all of those, especially the USN Yellow Wings bird  and I echo your thoughts re the Revell/Matchbox Gladiator

That was the first kit I refused to buy because of the asking price, very, very nice but I thought they were taking the Michael at the time with the price  :banghead:. Hope you got a good deal

Well after a year of abstaining from buying kits (except for a 1/72 VC10 I just had to get) I was at the LHS when I broke down and bought a few models, first I was rumaging through the shop's 'Special Offers' bin and found two 1/72 Hobbycraft kits, a Boeing-Vertol CH-113 (C$15) and an Arado Ar-234 with two jet engines (C$10).
Then I found on the shelf a Special Hobby 1/72 Westland Whirlwind with different noses (C$40).  Couldn't resist -- couldn't resist      ;D ;D ;D
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Got a very near mint 1975 issue Revell 1/72nd F-15A from King Kit for nostalgia reasons.
About the Revell 262's, the best moulds are in box #4119, the first issue before the mould was damaged, and the box is smaller than the later issues. Got one a short while ago off ebay for three quid including postage. Thanks for the main gear tip Wooksta, should improve the sit a lot.  I'll have to try that on my next one.

I got that Badger off Geoff the other week.

Oh bugger, should not have mentioned 'Badger'.

Badger-Badger-Badger-Badger-Badger-Badger......

Obviously some form of Northern ritual to do with the harvest or something
